Children of Derbyshire are spreading festive cheer at intu Derby’s annual Christmas choir competition.
The popular competition sees talented pupils from primary schools across the region go head to head as they sing their hearts out to much-loved Christmas classics.
Participating schools will compete in three rounds of heats taking place on Monday 26, Tuesday 27, and Wednesday 28 December from 11am to 2pm, before concluding at a grand finale on Thursday 6 December at 11am.

A group of Derby College students have been appointed to champion the opportunities for technology to be embedded into study programmes under a new partnership with IT services and solutions provider Fujitsu UK.
Derby-based painter John McDonald has donated one of his striking creations for a silent auction to support the community engagement programme at Déda – the city-based organisation that aims to enrich people’s lives through dance and the arts.

The shop, off Wirksworth Road, is run by Val’s brother Steve Croot and his wife Kay – and Val is a regular visitor.

Staff at Croots Farm Shop in Derbyshire are naming this Friday Bright Friday and will donate 10% of takings to local charity Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre.
As many national and global retailers launch Black Friday sales, independent farm shop Croots has decided to mark the day by renaming Friday 23rd November as Bright Friday… and wants to raise much-needed funds for its adopted local charity.

WW1 hero whose story stands for millions
How a World War One hero came to represent all those who lost their lives in the conflict will be explored by his famous niece as part of Buxton International Festival’s Book Weekend on November 23.
Buxton International Festival is counting down to November 24 when Nick Hewer, star of TV’s Countdown and The Apprentice, comes to the Pavilion Arts Centre to talk about the ups and spectacular downs of British celebrity life.
As we head into the darkest time of the year Matlock Storytelling Café invite you to draw near. Come and warm your ears and your soul with a packed evening of storytelling. The resident storytellers of Matlock Storytelling Cafe will be bringing you a little bit of mayhem, a plethora of stories and cake, always cake! Not to mention the excellent soup which we must admit is most welcome as the weather starts to chill.

LEVEL presents the first major installation of playful, interactive, digital artworks by Lumen Prize shortlisted artist, Will Hurt.
Some of you may remember that Will developed the first Abstract Playground at LEVEL in 2015, working with our participants to challenge and interrogate his work and artistic process. The project was a huge success for both LEVEL and Will, with his work going on to be shortlisted for the Lumen Prize.
Derby Concert Band’s Christmas Festival Concert is on Saturday 15 December 2018 at 7.30pm at Broadway Baptist Church, Broadway, Derby DE22 1BP. Our first solo exhibition by Mark Langley, 'In the Shade of Leaf', is a new collection of landscape paintings that take Mark's work forward in an exciting new direction. The collection demonstrates a variety of experimental styles of working in paint. The exhibition focusses on depicting native trees in local settings, and experiments with lighting, from soft summer evening sun to the contrast of sunshine and shadow.
Buxton Fringe is inviting everyone to celebrate the opening of entries to the 2018 Fringe with a festive Fringe40 Village Carols sing-along.
The exciting Christmas Party, hosted by Buxton’s Green Man Gallery, will take place on Saturday December 1 from 7 to 10pm with Derbyshire Village Carols from 7.30pm. Wine and light refreshments will be provided with all donations going to the Fringe.
This December Family Festivities returns to Markeaton Park for two weekends full of free family fun. This year Family Festivities will run two themed weekends; on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 December the Craft Fair Weekend will give families the opportunity to find that extra special gift that’s unique and locally made.
On Saturday 24 November, Derby Museum and Art Gallery will showcase The Unreturning Army, a special performance by Cotton Grass Theatre commemorating the love, loss and bravery of local people who lived through the First World War.
Hayfield Singers are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of the famous American composer, Leonard Bernstein, at their Christmas concert, which will be held at St Matthews Church, Hayfield, on Sunday 9th December at 7.30pm.
Among other choral arrangements the choir will perform Bernstein’s ‘Chichester Psalms’, which were commissioned for the 1965 Southern Cathedral’s Festival at Chichester Cathedral.

The stories and memories of students who have visited our White Hall Outdoor Education Centre since it opened almost 70 years ago are being collected to create a film about its history in a £10,000 project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Derby LIVE is pleased to announce that internationally-renowned tribute act Killer Queen will be performing at Derby Arena on Saturday 18 May 2019.
Killer Queen have been performing their tribute to Queen’s concert since 1993. Their expert musicianship, extraordinary energy and accurate portrayal of the world’s greatest live band have rightfully earned Killer Queen the title of Queen tribute royalty.
The countdown is on to this year’s 2018 Christmas Lights Switch-On presented by Derby LIVE, Derby City Council’s entertainment arm, and hosted by Smooth, who are the official radio station for the event. The traditional Christmas celebration will be held on The Market Place on Saturday 17 November, with a stage show from 3:15pm and a festive parade from The Spot to The Market Place at around 4:30pm.
On Friday December 14th Spital Arts are delighted to host another wonderful Christmas evening with the Chesterfield Co-operative Choral Society.

Students across Derby College are gearing up to take part in an innovative entrepreneurial programme devised by former teacher Baasit Siddiqui who regularly appears with his brother and father in Channel 4’s ‘Gogglebox’.
Mr Siddiqui has been a star of the television show for the past six years and has set up Siddiqui Education – running inspirational workshops for schools and colleges across the UK.

FREE training and mentoring for local women
We’re on the look out for women of all ages who want to take part in our new project: Lean On. We are going to be creating a network of women who are interested in or are currently running their own businesses, however big or small, part or full time. You don’t need experience to take part and we have 1-2-1 mentors available too. Expect something a little different: more friendly likeminded groups getting creative than the cut-throat apprentice!

Come face to face with the Devil in the Guildhall Theatre
This November Derby Shakespeare Theatre Company invite you to come face to face with the Devil and steal a glimpse into the jaws of Hell as they present The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe.
Buxton Fringe has released the results of its latest audience survey showing that 92% of respondents gave an approval rate of 4 or 5 out of 5.
The overall satisfaction was reflected at the box office with Underground Venues enjoying a 16% increase on ticket sales on 2017. Managed venues The Rotunda and The Green Man also reported healthy ticket sales and the estimated average per performance audience figure for ticketed events across the whole Fringe was 26.
