Buxton Fringe announces Springboard line-up

Buxton Fringe has confirmed its entertainment line-up for Springboard, a social event at the town’s Green Man Gallery designed to mark the changing season and promote the Fringe’s forthcoming festival in July.

A Perfect Sentence is Oliver Frank Chanarin’s first solo exhibition, premiering at the Museum of Making in Derby on Thursday 16 March, as part of FORMAT23, the UK’s leading international photography biennial. The exhibition interrogates the shifting terrain of documentary photography, exploring our drive for attention, the complexities of being seen and the anxieties of being overlooked.

The Buxton Flowerpot Trail returns for 2023

The Buxton Flowerpot Trail returns for 2023 thanks to the continued support of some of our local Derbyshire County Council and High Peak Borough Council councillors. This year, this family favourite arts trail will run during July and August and simply aims to bring a smile. As ever, all in Buxton and surrounding villages are welcome and encouraged to get involved- households, businesses, schools and community groups- to make a flowerpot creation for the trail. They can be displayed in gardens, on gateposts, door steps or in windows, anywhere so long as they are visible from the pavement.

Local MP Visits High Peak Pub to Show Support for English Tourism Week

Robert Largan, Member of Parliament for High Peak, has celebrated English Tourism Week (17-26 March 2023) during a visit to the Yorkshire Bridge Inn at Bamford.

Mr Largan MP pulled a pint at the award-winning High Peak pub and met with owner John Illingworth; Jo Dilley, Managing Director of Visit Peak District & Derbyshire; and Sir Richard FitzHerbert, Chair of Visit Peak District & Derbyshire; to highlight the value of pubs to both visitors and local communities – and to discuss the ongoing challenges facing hospitality businesses.

Derby Museums inspires future craft-makers in new partnership with Heritage Crafts

Derby Museums this week announces its partnership with Heritage Crafts, launching the first of many workshops in its Craft Skills for the Future programme that aim to inspire young people to become craft-makers at the Museum of Making.

With a shared vision to inspire young people to discover making and develop their creative skills, Derby Museums and Heritage Crafts will co-produce a vibrant programme of craft workshops and courses throughout the year, designed to enthuse and encourage young people about the possibility of craft as a career.

The Brampton Sessions New Musical Adventures on Chatsworth Road

Eight-piece band Jig For a Kiss will be your hosts as we launch our monthly sessions of songs, tunes and fun.

The Brampton Sessions will be on the first Wednesday of each month. We will be serving up a new musical feast for Chesterfield. We want to stir up the scene, throw everything into the pot and cook up something unique and special. We’ll revelling in rich and vibrant musical traditions.

This novel tells the story - inevitably fictionalised, but historically accurate as far as records allow - of Glossopdale's Elizabethan folk hero, Harry Botham, who stood up against Lord Shrewsbury's swingeing rent rises on our tenant farmers by taking his protest to Elizabeth's Privy Council in London!
 

Inner Landscapes

Inner Landscapes opens on the 19th March from 2-5pm and you are all warmly invited to the opening of another not to be missed exhibition at The Old Lock Up Gallery. The exhibition continues from 24th March until 29th April: open Friday - Sunday 10-5pm.

Derby College student secures second prestigious award

Derby College Group student Joe Johnson has been presented with the prestigious ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award at this year’s Building Communities Awards. This is the second time Joe has received this accolade, after previously winning ‘Intermediate/Advanced Apprentice of the Year’ in the Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire Apprenticeship Awards in October last year.

Staff at science company with Derbys HQ vote to save lives after naming St John Ambulance their new charity

Hundreds of employees at a chemistry company with a Derbyshire headquarters will be helping save lives after nominating St John Ambulance as their next adopted charity.

Lubrizol, a science company whose research and development function and headquarters is based at Hazelwood near Belper, has now announced that the leading first aid organisation will be its next charity partner over all its UK sites.

The partnership means that Lubrizol’s employees will be undertaking a series of fundraisers aiming to raise thousands of pounds for St John Ambulance over the next two years.

Expressions of Interest Now Open for Stallholders at Derby Book Fair

We are busy planning the 2023 Summer Book Festival and are planning to hold a book and book-related craft fair at the Museum of Making in Derby on Saturday 13 May. It will run from 10:30am-4pm (with time to set up and clear away to be scheduled).

We are currently open to expressions of interest from potential stallholders who may be interested in joining us. It will be an opportunity for you to showcase your book-related crafts or books - whether as an author or on behalf of an author or as an independent publisher or bookseller.
