The Art of Wellbeing

The Art of Well Being is a series of creative workshops designed specifically to create, support and promote health and well being via the arts. The workshops are held in our beautiful and peaceful gallery space by qualified creative expressive practitioners.

The series of The Art of Wellbeing workshops are co facilitated by Ella Meredith and Rachael Pinks.

Secret Postcard Show 2021

 

THE SECRET POSTCARD SHOW 2021 opens 27th August 6pm - 8.30pm - all welcome - no booking required. We prefer that you wear masks whilst in the gallery and use the hand sanitiser provided.

The exhibition will then go live via Instagram from as close to 8.30pm as possible - work will be available to purchase. 

Exhibiting artists will be announced via our website once the show has opened.

New creative classes for autumn in South Derbyshire & Ashby

The Creation Station is launching their autumn programme of award-winning arts and crafts classes for pre-school children, and adult craft nights, in the Ashby, Hilton, Melbourne and Swadlincote areas.

For pre-schoolers, the hands-on, exploratory programmes are based on the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum EYFS. Each class is designed to support the individual child’s journey of discovery, through a wide range of different materials and tools, every week. 

Ghosts of the Landscape Nature Writing Competition

A summer creative writing competition for adults and children | Closing Date Midnight September 8th, 2021

Ghosts of the Landscape is a project which aims to raise awareness of the plight of Derbyshire’s moorlands. Instead of being an important haven for wildlife, carbon sequestration and flood prevention, as they once were, they have been drained, polluted, overgrazed and lost many of the wild species that should live there.

Derby College Group: Student Recognition

Plumbing and Electrical Installation students at Derby College Group have been recognised at an event – showcasing their hard work and commitment to their studies.

Teachers on the Levels one and two and three study programmes at the Roundhouse nominated the Best Student and Most Improved Student who were presented with prizes donated by local companies CEF, Monument Tools and Willbond Plumbing Centres.

World Record Attempt Marks Next Stage In Charity Growth

Derbyshire’s specialist child exploitation charity Safe and Sound are gearing up for a world record attempt to spearhead the next phase of their Butterfly Appeal.

Safe and Sound have been working with two local businesses, Colleague Box and Mercia Image Print, to develop their plan to smash the current world record for the ‘largest display of butterfly replicas’.

The world record currently stands at 720 but organisers are planning to display 1000 professionally- printed butterfly images at the Derbion on Saturday August 28.

Music, dancing and more coming to Derby Market Place

More events have now been added to the great line-up of shows and attractions at the Derby Loves You temporary venue at Derby Market Place.

Talks, poetry, and musical experiences will be among the latest additions to an already exciting programme, that includes al fresco dining and markets, meaning there’s something or everyone.

Healthwatch Derbyshire Expands Board To Help Drive Local Service Improvements

Healthwatch Derbyshire, the local health and social care watchdog, is recruiting members of the public to join its Board and help steer the future direction of the organisation.

Healthwatch Derbyshire is part of the Healthwatch England network of over 150 local organisations across the country. As an independent, statutory body, it ensures that health and social care leaders and other decision makers listen to feedback from local people and improve standards of care.

Derbyshire Peak District Branch holds taster events to boost local friendships

Throughout September, to celebrate Friendship Month, the Derbyshire Peak Oddfellows are holding events to help bring friends back together and encourage new connections after 18 months of isolation and restrictions.

The Society, whose members meet up regularly in the Derbyshire/ Chesterfield area for social and fundraising activities, says it wants to extend a warm welcome to newcomers by offering a range of taster events specially designed to put them at ease.

New QUAD Exhibition - Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley: 'Haunting Alongside Our Shadows'

Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley’s Haunting Alongside Our Shadows will be on display at QUAD from September 2021.

Danielle’s work is based in historical happening’s, creating video-game inspired artworks that form part of her Black Trans archive to, as the artist states, “record the lives of Black Trans People in the present to imagine our existence in the past through immersive storytelling.”

About LEVEL’s Residencies

Residencies are planned to take place between November 2021 and March 2022. We will select 4 Artists or companies to complete a 1 to 2 week residency with LEVEL.

Co-Lab at the Museum of Making

Co-Lab (Collaborative Laboratory) is an opportunity for creative organisations, makers, artists, and practitioners from across the region to meet, network and learn more about the upcoming collaborative opportunities at Derby Museums.

We’ll be discussing, creating, and sharing ideas for ‘First Fridays’, a series of proposed monthly after-hours talks, workshops and performance-based events at the Museum of Making, which will be co-produced with local creative organisations, makers and artists.

Artcore Newsflash

On behalf of Artcore Gallery, the team would like to invite you to the launch of Error & Power, an exhibition featuring the work of artists in residence Naho Matsuda (@naho.matsuda) and Neale Willis (@nealewillis).

Naho and Neale began their residency with Artcore in May 2020. For Error & Power, both artists explore the strategy of creating space for chance, and the potential for mistakes and errors to shape their work, whether by design or accident.

Garden Design Planned For GWL Return

Horticulture students at Derby College Group (DCG) are ploughing ahead with their entry into this year’s Gardeners World Live exhibition and competition at the NEC later this month.

The mature students are on the Level 3 study programme which has been specially devised by DCG Horticulture lecturer Mike Baldwin to bring together skills and knowledge in surveying, design, plantsmanship and construction - ideal for students who want to establish a gardening business.

Online Enrolment at Derby College Group

New students planning to join Derby College Group (DCG) in September will be able to enrol online from Thursday August 12 this year – GCSE results day.

Remote enrolment was introduced at the college for the first time last year and proved to be popular with school leavers and adult learners.

Arts Development are looking for a music artist to deliver a 3-day residential in an Erewash school with KS2 children, to help create a Song for Erewash. The song will be developed jointly in school and performed at Ilkeston’s historical Charter Fair the 18th October 2021.
 
Schools are to submit a collection of thoughts and words that will help complete the song prior to the residential starting.

Derby College Celebrates Students’ Success

More than 450 A Level students at Derby College Group (DCG) are receiving their results by email this morning (Tuesday August 10).

Whilst students are asked to celebrate their results at home with their family and friends, staff are on hand in person at the Joseph Wright Centre to support any students who need help with issues such as clearing and appeals.

After the team at St John Street Gallery have managed to survive the past year, they had to reconsider their business goals and the way forward. And so, they are turning over a new leaf: a new name, new logo, a new colour theme and sign outside!

Straight Curves: Summer in the loop

Why not get together with some friends and book on to one of Straight Curves weekend workshops or come along solo and make some new friends!

Straight Curves' 16 week CAL is now completed and the team are offering a printed A4 or A5 pattern booklet and wool as a kit available to order and collect now.

The kits still include support via social media and email but it is not a taught course. Please specify A5 or A5 booklet when ordering.

'History of the Barn' Dronfield Hall Barn Tour Guide | Beginning Tuesday 3rd August

Remember when the Barn looked like this? Beginning on Tuesday 3rd August, and taking place on every Wednesday that month (10th, 17th, 24th) from 1pm-1:45pm, you can join us for a tour of the Barn and learn about the characters and people from the building's 600 years of history.

Tickets are priced at £2 for members, and £4 for non-members, and can be purchased from our website, or just turn up on the day.

Derby: Our City of Making, is an exciting site-specific dance production by Surtal Arts, commissioned by Junction Arts, that celebrates Derby as a 'city of making'.

Influenced by Derby's rich engineering and cultural heritage, this special dance installation brings together two of the city's oldest diverse communities, Indian and Ukrainian, in a site-specific dance powered by fusion choreography at the Museum of Making.

Join Baker Consultants' Andrew Baker at the 2021 Farm Business Innovation Show

Andrew Baker, Managing Director at Baker Consultants, will be giving a presentation on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) at the 2021 Farm Business Innovation Show in November 2021.

The Environment Bill now stands states that it is a requirement for most types of development to secure a measurable 10% gain in biodiversity. The biodiversity value of the land upon which the development is sited will be measured prior to development; developers will need to show post-development that biodiversity loss is fully compensated plus a 10% net gain.

Calling All Designer-Makers from the East Midlands Region!

The Hub cordially invite you to propose work for sale in their Christmas selling show, Crafted: East Midlands, the first to be taking place in their brand-new Ground Floor Gallery at their beautifully refurbished building.

The show will be running at the Hub from 4th December 2021 to 9th January 2022; a peak time of year for sales. You must be based within the East-Midlands to apply.

Deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 13th August.
