Matlock’s Jubilee Weekend will see a special event over the 4th and 5th of June at Hall Leys Park. Matlock Market will be holding a special Jubilee Market from 9:00am until 3:00pm on both days. There will also be street entertainment, a vintage concert organ, bouncy castles, face painting and live music performances from Cage of Crows, members of Frank, Matlock’s Tuneless Choir and many more.

Survey reveals Festival’s feel-good factor

Live music is just the ticket if you want to feel good, an audience survey found after a concert during last summer’s Buxton International Festival (BIF).

Orchestras Live, a charity dedicated to bringing orchestral music to as wide and diverse an audience as possible, conducted the survey after one of their productions by The English Concert.

It revealed that 98% of the audience felt the live performance of Vivaldi had contributed positively to their sense of well-being.

Derby welcomes Urban Forest on the Market Place

From the end of June, the Market Place will be transformed into a woodland wonderland bringing a new, vibrant space for al-fresco dining and outdoor events over the summer. The space will be free to access for residents and made available to cultural partners to host events.

It will be just one of four Urban Forests in the UK this summer and the only one in the East Midlands.

Scouse comedian offering ‘laughs for life’ at Buxton festival fringe.

Jewish/Scouse stand-up comedian Henry Churniavsky has two shows on Saturday 23rd July 2022. Both shows are to raise awareness and funds for Mental Health Charities. He came up with the idea after his best friend’s son attempted suicide, and never recovered. He is now an Ambassador for The Mental Health Charity Jami UK and he also supports YoungMinds Mental Health Charity.

Déda Programme Supports Dance Artists and Young People to Develop their skills and employability.

Déda, the Derby-based nationally recognised centre for dance, movement and creativity, has launched a new series of in-person education and training programmes called the Déda Campus, to help Dance Artists and young people learn more about dance and upskill themselves.

An Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training course has been developed for those aged 18 and above, with a background in dance, to deepen their practice and provide alternative income sources for freelancers.

Horticulture Students Spread Their Wings In Preparation For Gardeners World Live 2022

Horticulture students at Derby College Group (DCG) are busy putting the finishing touches to their show garden entry for this year’s Gardeners World Live show at the NEC next month (June 16-19).

The mature students are on the Level 3 study programme at Broomfield Hall land-based college in Morley which has been specially devised by Horticulture lecturer Mike Baldwin to bring together skills and knowledge in surveying, design, plantsmanship and construction - ideal for students who want to establish a gardening business.

Celebrate a once-in-a-lifetime Jubilee

Derby will be flying the flag to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, with an extended Bank Holiday weekend to pay tribute to Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

Derby City Council and partners across the city are coming together to celebrate and reflect on our modern Elizabethan Age with family activities leading up to the big weekend. The city centre will be the scene of events, beginning with the lighting of a ceremonial beacon on Cathedral Green on Thursday 2 June.

DCG Chosen For British Cycling Talent Pathway

Derby College Group (DCG) has been chosen as one of just four colleges in the UK to offer a special sports qualification for young athletes who want to combine top level training with qualifications to support their wider career aspirations.

DCG has joined colleges in Manchester, Gloucestershire and St Albans in being accredited by British Cycling to offer the Level three Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE).

Derbyshire company serves up an ace with donation to local tennis court

A Derbyshire company has made a smash-hit donation to a local tennis court by helping pay for a resurfacing project so it can be played on once again. Lubrizol, which has its UK headquarters in Hazelwood near Duffield, has donated vital funds to enable the tennis court on the village’s playing field to be resurfaced. The court has been there since the 1950s but has not been able to be used since before the Covid pandemic because it had fallen into disrepair.

We are seeking a visual artist with excellent engagement skills to deliver a series of creative workshops with schools and community groups to produce multiple temporary artworks that will feature at the final celebration event for the Walking Together mining memorial.

2022 marks a significant moment in the Walking Together project, in the 10th year of the project the voluntary Markham Vale Heritage Group, supported by Derbyshire County Council and Beam, will complete the mining memorial.

 We are back!  After two quiet years on the streets of Bakewell, we are so excited that the 18th Day of Dance will be held on Saturday 25 June, filling our picturesque town again with the music and dance from around the world.  

The Day heralds the start of Bakewell Carnival Week, there is a Farmers Market and with local well dressings on show, it is a day out not to miss, so join the several thousand people who travel from around the country to enjoy the dancing, colour and fun.  

Necklace of stars social isolation project exhibition

A Necklace of Stars was set up pre-Covid-19 to tackle isolation and loneliness in housebound older adults in Derbyshire. The original plan had been for individuals to receive one-to-one sessions in their own home with either artist Lois Blackburn or poet Philip Davenport.
