A city centre business has donated and planted nearly 100 bedding plants in the area as part of its commitment to the St Peters Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) and the Business in the Community’s Healthy High Streets programme.

Secure cycle parking and a new shop featuring top international cycling brands is still available in the refurbished Park Bikeworks in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter, following the move there by Derby-based triathlon wetsuit, clothing and accessories specialists HUUB Design. Under HUUB Design’s leasehold agreement with Derby City Council, bike parking at the premises in Full Street will continue to be available for the public under the management of a new company Park Bikeworks Ltd.

Horticulture staff and students at Derby College have won a coveted gold medal at BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2016 at the NEC for their unique plant border created to raise awareness of multiple sclerosis.

Derby and Ashbourne family-owned funeral directors G Wathall & Son have donated a table bench to Becket Primary School in the city centre to enhance their newly-created community garden.

St Peters Quarter Business Improvement District has published its plans for continuing the work underway in the area of the city centre between the Cathedral Quarter and Intu Derby shopping centre.

Road closures for the cycle stage of the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon on Sunday July 17 have been confirmed. Competitors will complete a circular route from Markeaton Park, into the Cathedral Quarter and back to the park with roads along the closed road cycle route closed from 8.45am and 4.30pm.  

Derby’s popular Night Market by Sheena Holland will join the programme for the first night of this year’s Derby Festé in September.

Around 40 stalls feature locally produced arts, crafts, food and drink and vintage fayre will be in the Market Place and underneath the Guildhall arches between 5pm and 11.15pm on Friday September 23 with free entry. The Night Market attracted up to 20,000 visitors when it was held in the Cathedral Quarter streets last November and then 10,000 in March this year.

The Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) have commissioned a large number of colourful hanging baskets along the pedestrianised ‘spine’ of the city centre.
Funding for the project has been provided by the BID’s and has seen hanging baskets erected along Iron Gate, the Market Place, Corn Market and St James Street in the Cathedral Quarter and along St Peter’s Street, The Spot and London Road in St Peters Quarter.  

Two swimmers linked to Lonsdale Pool in Mickleover have returned victorious from the European Masters Championships 2016 held at the iconic London Aquatics Centre at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Jenny Merritt (65), a member of Spondon Masters swimming club, who trains at Lonsdale Pool and is a former seven times Masters breast stroke world champion, returned to winning ways – collecting a gold in the 200m, silver in 100m and a bronze medal in the 50m breast stroke races.

Representatives from businesses in Derby’s St Peters Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) focused their efforts on St Peter’s Cross and the Green Lane area for the latest Tidy Up event.

Staff from Barclays, Babington Arms, John M Lewis and Greggs were joined by Healthy High Street champions Boots and M&S and were supported by Derby City Council’s Streetpride team and the St Peters Quarter Rangers for the early morning tidy up of the area – which lies between the Cathedral Quarter and Intu Derby shopping centre.
