Derby College Reaches Final Shortlist for IMI Industry Award

Derby College has been shortlisted for a national award by the motor vehicle repair industry body in recognition of its work to train young people and support local businesses.

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) has this week announced the finalists for its prestigious Outstanding Achievers national award and Derby College is one of three training centres in the UK to make the shortlist.

Local Artist Returns to Little Explorers Nursery with Award Winning Display

Derbyshire artist Victoria Brown has returned to Derby College’s Little Explorers Nursery at Broomfield Hall to show the pre-school children how their work helped earn her a top award at the recent RHS Tatton Park Show.

The Bean Project is part of the United Nations 2016 Year of the Pulse and has involved Victoria and the children planting beans at Broomfield Hall and two local primary schools – Dale Primary School and Weston-on-Trent Primary School.

Pool Staff Plan Channel Challenge

Staff at two Derby swimming pools have raised £600 for vital maintenance and training on life-saving equipment available to the public.

More than 20 members of staff at Lonsdale Pool in Mickleover and Gayton Pool in Littleover were joined by some family, children and friends – taking it in turns to swim 1,664 lengths of Lonsdale Pool in a day - which is the equivalent to the 26 mile English Channel. Cake sale was also held at the pools organised by lifeguard Laura O’Donnell.

Another Bumper Year for Derby College

Derby College, which was graded 'Good' with 'Outstanding' features by Ofsted earlier this year, has maintained last year's 98% pass rate for A levels.

Furthermore, 20 subjects recorded a 100% pass rate including English, Politics, Modern Languages, Law, ICT and Biology. Assistant Head of Academic Studies at Derby College, Stacey Adams, said: "We are obviously delighted to have achieved an extremely high pass rate again this year and particularly that 20 key subject areas recorded 100% pass rate.

Urban Culture To Take Centre Stage At Derby Festé

The People’s Stage will return to Derby Festé this September to celebrate the best of urban and Black community arts in the city and county. Organised by Derby-based Baby People – the stage will be set in the Market Place on Saturday September 24, which is the second day of the 10th annual Derby Festé.

Successful bids boost museum and art gallery redevelopment

The redevelopment of Buxton Museum and Art Gallery has received a boost after being awarded £244,500 following two successful cash bids.

The museum and art gallery is to receive £150,000 from the Wolfson Foundation, a charity which awards grants to support and promote excellence in the fields of science, health, the arts and humanities and education. It has also been awarded £94,500 from Arts Council England's Museum Resilience Fund. Both successful bids will be used towards the £1.5 million programme to redevelop the museum and art gallery, in Terrace Road, Buxton.
