Game On For Derby Business Community

Nearly 200 people from businesses and organisations across Derby took part in the first ever Derby Business Games on Thursday July 6 – designed to be the grown up version of the traditional school sports day.

Teams of eight competed in a wide range of competitions from rounders and dodgeball to egg and wheelbarrow races in the event.  It was hosted by the University of Derby at Kedleston Road, organised by Derby-based HUUB Events and sponsored by Timms Solicitors.

The afternoon finished with relays and a tug of war finale before trophies and medals were presented.

Jenson Button Trust Triathlon To Support Local Young People

Organisers of next month’s Jenson Button Trust Triathlon in Derby have announced that all the money raised by the event will be donated entirely to help local young people.

Barnardo’s are the charity partner for the JBTT which will be held at Markeaton Park on Sunday July 23

A proportion of the entry fee and individual entrants’ own fund raising efforts will go to the charity’s Leaving Care Services in Derbyshire which aims to bridge the gap for children between living in care and the adult world.

Derby College Hosts Chief Constable First Young People’s Engagement Visit

Students at Derby College’s Roundhouse were recently selected to be the first young people in the county to officially meet the new Derbyshire Police Chief Constable Peter Goodman.

Mr Goodman met with students on the College’s Transitions programme which provides individual support for young people looking to progress onto a full time College programme or work.

Budding Authors And Actors Close Third Derby Book Festival

Students from Derby College who are recent arrivals to Derby from across the world have compiled a book of stories about the land of their birth, family memories and personal challenges.  The book was officially launched at the final event of this summer’s third Derby Book Festival.

The 28 young people, whose first language is not English, are on Derby College’s Lexis intensive language programme.

Construction Students Win Record Medal Tally

Construction students at Derby College won their largest tally of medals in the regional Skillbuild competition held recently at Leicester College.

Twelve Colleges from the Midlands and Yorkshire regions entered 77 students into the different competitions which included set tasks in Brickwork, Painting and Decorating, Joinery and Plastering.

Celebrating 100 years of Rotary in Derbyshire

In July the Rotary Club of Derby sees the start of its 100th year of existence. To launch this significant milestone year a fabulous concert will take place at Derby Cathedral on Saturday 8th July. The programme features one half of the internationally renowned Opera Babes, Karen England, with the well known and much admired Derbyshire choirs, The Dalesmen and The Derventio singing a selection of popular music.

Derby Theatre to hold Peter Pan auditions for young people

Derby Theatre are looking for young people aged 9-16 to be in their big family-friendly production for the festive season, J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan adapted by Neil Bartlett.  
 
On Sunday 30 July, group auditions will be held for young people who are interested in appearing in the production, which will run in the Main House at Derby Theatre from Saturday 2 December until Saturday 6 January.
