Old Glossop Victorian Christmas returns on 6 December

High Peak Food Bank are holding an event in the afternoon of 6 December to raise cash for charity.

 

‘Old Glossop Victorian Christmas’ is a street market with entertainment, Christmas tree, carols, lantern parade and heaps of nostalgia.

 

It is being organised by local community groups and charities and last year attracted hundreds of people – many traders said it was their best trading day of the year. The event is in the streets of Old Glossop, an eighteenth century village on the outskirts of Glossop and runs from 2-5.30pm.

Journey through unusual visual worlds, strange sounds and chilled out beats in a fun, creative and relaxed atmosphere. Expect the unexpected.

Street Entertainment Continues in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter

CQ Saturdays Knickerbocker Glorious, Derby’s premier outdoor variety showcase, returns to the Cathedral Quarter on Saturday October 17 with a great line up of free entertainment.

CQ Saturdays Knickerbocker Glorious takes place between 11am and 3pm at The Waterfall Stage in the Market Place.

The line-up will include the Ripley Green Garters Morris Dancing Troupe who will make their CQ Saturdays debut.  Also performing will be Belper singer/songwriter Amy Illingworth and a special preview of Streetlight Theatre Arts ‘American Idiot’.

Event Encourages More Females into Engineering Careers

Derby College has teamed up with Rolls-Royce plc to organise an event to raise the profile of career opportunities in Engineering for females.

An information evening will be held in the Engineering Academy at Derby College’s Roundhouse campus in Pride Park on Wednesday October 21 between 5.30pm and 7.30pm.

In addition to a range of workshop activities, there will be an opportunity for females of all ages who are interested in engineering to talk to female engineers from Rolls-Royce.

Live & Local – Surprising Shows in Surprising Places

Ashley Hutchings, the Guv’nor of Folk-Rock and founder of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and The Albion Band will be in Doveridge on Saturday 10th October.

In his show,  ‘From Psychedelia to Sonnets, Ashley Hutchings will be recounting his life in the world of Folk-Rock, with song lyrics, poetry and more, from his book ‘Words, Words’ Words’.  He will be supported by guest female singers/musicians, to complete a great evening’s entertainment.

BOLSOVER BRASS FESTIVAL TO BROADCAST AROUND THE WORLD

 

The annual Bolsover District Festival of Brass is set to take place on Sunday October 4th, and it will be broadcast live all over the globe for the first time in its history. First Art has teamed up with Bolsover District Council to offer an all-day live web-stream of the event as it happens, featuring live music and interviews with musicians.

This Girl CAN Dive Taster Event

Women and girls aged 12 and above are being invited to try scuba and snorkelling at a free taster day on Saturday October 31 at Lonsdale Pool in Mickleover, Derby.

There are 100 places available for the afternoon’s series of 15 minute sessions and more than half the places have already been taken with ages ranging from 12 to 72.

Stage and Screen Favourites Line Up To See Out The Year

Celebrated regional orchestra Sinfonia Viva has announced the programme for its annual New Year’s Eve Gala Concert at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham.

 

Hollywood and Broadway will come to Nottingham on Thursday December 31 as the early evening concert transports the audience to the red carpet world of box-office smash musicals, all-time favourite movie themes and classic film songs.

 

Derby Folk Festival Returns To City Centre

Derby’s Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter are sponsoring Derby Folk Festival for a second year in succession with both areas once again playing host to a variety of street entertainment. .

 

Dance displays will be held by various groups led by Folk 3D, in both areas on Saturday October 3 and Sunday October 4 between 10am and 3pm.

 

The displays join a wide range of acts at the Market Place marquee, Guildhall Theatre, the Old Bell Hotel and Derby Cathedral.
