Fun for EVERYONE – FIGMENT Derby Festival returns this summer

Have you ever felt inspired to try something different, creative or new? Are you an artist, writer, photographer, dancer, maker, musician, or just someone who wants to share an experience with your city? Derby Museums wants to hear from you!

FIGMENT Derby returns to The Silk Mill and Cathedral Green on Saturday 19 August from 11am-5pm. FIGMENT Derby will be a free participatory event full of artistic playfulness and creative energy.

New Season, new What’s On Brochure for Buxton Opera House

Buxton Opera House’s new autumn/winter what’s on brochure has arrived telling of theatre treats, as the nights start to close in.

Among the celebrity names joining us this season is Derren Brown, with his sell-out London show Underground (28th-30th August), a collection of Derren’s very best stage work. His illusions and magical genius is a thing to behold.

Hairpsray is on its way, with Opera House Chief Exec directing the National tour!

The big, bold and beautiful production of the much-loved musical comedy Hairspray will visit more than 30 venues across the length and breadth of the UK, including Buxton in October.

A star cast has been announced including Norman Pace as Wilbur Turnblad with Matt Rixon returning as Edna. Also returning is Layton Williams to play the role of Seaweed alongside musical theatre star Brenda Edwards as Motormouth Maybelle. Newcomer Rebecca Mendoza will make her professional debut as Tracy Turnblad.

Jenson Button Trust Triathlon Delivers Something For Everyone

More than 600 athletes of all ages and experience enjoyed a day of sport in Derby on Sunday (July 23) as part of the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon.

400 individuals and teams of three competed twice during the day with an open-water swim in Markeaton Park lake, a closed-road cycle route in and out of the city’s Cathedral Quarter and then a run route around the picturesque park.

Meanwhile 200 youngsters and accompanying adults joined the family triathlon in the lunchtime break – covering a shorter course before crossing the main finish line.

Location: Cromford Mills

FREE ENTRY (small charge for some activities)

Step back in time and experience life in Georgian times. Chat with the village folk and mingle with the gentry – and learn all about the traditions and customs of this period in time with three days of events for all ages. Why not come dressed in Georgian costume too!
