risual Microsoft Academy to launch at Derby College

Derby College has teamed up with Microsoft’s UK Country Partner of The Year 2015, risual Limited, to open a new Academy for ICT learners in order to address a growing shortage of digital skills and bridge the gap between industry and education.

The new academy is set to open at the College's Joseph Wright Campus in Derby city centre on Tuesday November 3.

DERBYSHIRE CHORUS DALEDIVA BRINGS HOME SILVER MEDAL FROM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LAS VEGAS

Derbyshire women’s chorus DaleDiva has brought home a silver medal after wowing the judges with its 15-minute show package in the World Championships in Las Vegas.

The Divas rocked the MGM Grand stage with their performance in the Harmony Classic competition and were awarded a score of 1,249 – just ONE point behind the gold medal winners.

DaleDiva, formed by musical director Ally Law in 2007, was selected for the World Championships after winning at national competition level in May last year.

Buxton Fringe offers invitation to new-look AGM

After the fantastic success of 2015’s bumper event, Buxton Festival Fringe is inviting audience members, friends and performers to have their say at its new-look Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 11th November at Buxton’s Old Hall Hotel.

Old Glossop Victorian Christmas returns on 6 December

High Peak Food Bank are holding an event in the afternoon of 6 December to raise cash for charity.

 

‘Old Glossop Victorian Christmas’ is a street market with entertainment, Christmas tree, carols, lantern parade and heaps of nostalgia.

 

It is being organised by local community groups and charities and last year attracted hundreds of people – many traders said it was their best trading day of the year. The event is in the streets of Old Glossop, an eighteenth century village on the outskirts of Glossop and runs from 2-5.30pm.

Public Asked For Views on Car Parking in Derby City Centre

Visitors to Derby city centre are being asked their views on car parking as part of a consultation commissioned by the Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement Districts (BIDs).

The BIDS, in partnership with Derby City Council, have commissioned an independent review into all aspects of car parking in the city centre and are consulting with businesses in the two areas and with visitors through an on-line survey.

Future of Heanor Site Set To Be Agreed

Derby College is set to make a decision imminently on the future sale of its former site in Mundy Street, Heanor, following the end of a six month nomination period.

The land was, earlier this year, included in a list of assets of community value nominated by Amber Valley Borough Council.  This period has allowed potential buyers, including the Heanor Grammar School Action Group, time to investigate options for the future use of the site and to develop bids.

The six-month period expires on October 27, and the following day the College will consider all offers for the site.

Current Standard Electric help local schools and charities to increase their awareness of electrical safety

Current Standard Electric (CSE) has been doing work in the community, especially in local schools, to help educate young people about all things electrical.

Each spring, Buxton Community School invites local business people to talk with the Year 9 students about their jobs and what it’s like to be in that profession.

This past spring, Current Standard Electric met with 2 groups of students at the Buxton Community School to provide them with information regarding working in the field of Electrical Contracting.
