Local Businesses Support North Derbyshire Challenge Cycle Sportive

Two Pride Park companies have pledged their support for Derby’s next major sporting event.

Geldards solicitors and Document Network Services (DNS) will sponsor the North Derbyshire Challenge cycle sportive on Sunday September 17 organised by Cycle Derby and HUUB Events.

Geldards will sponsor the Team Challenge.  This is an opportunity for up to ten cyclists to work together in an attempt to travel the greater distance.  The company will also host a hospitality area at Markeaton Park with exclusive access for Business Challenge riders throughout the day.

Floral Festival Colour in Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter

The Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) have commissioned a large number of colourful hanging baskets across both areas ahead of the late summer and Autumn festivals that will take to the local streets.

Funding for the project has been provided by both BIDs with further sponsorship in St Peters Quarter by G Wathall & Son, independent funeral directors, and Intu Derby shopping Centre.

Local music event in a Cave!

The event is will take place inside a cave in Matlock Bath and will premiere two new compositions by experimental classical composer Eliane Radigue and electronic producer Lee Gamble.  The music will be performed by the London Contemporary Orchestra and broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

Sinfonia Viva Derby Residency Brings Anniversary Year To a Close

Folk tunes, classical gems and even music played from rooftops around the Cathedral are just some of the highlights of Sinfonia Viva’s four-week Autumn Derby Residency.

Grammy-nominated Sinfonia Viva, the East Midlands’ only professional orchestra, will mark the climax of its 35th anniversary year with the series of performances which showcase the Orchestra’s innovative diversity.

Higher Achievements at Derby College

Derby College is celebrating an increase in the number of students achieving higher grades (A* to B) in the first A level results published since the major curriculum re-structure.

A record 30% of A level students at the Joseph Wright sixth form centre gained the higher grades and the overall pass rate was just over 96%.  Points per entry has also increased to 27.5 compared with 23.7 last year.

Derby College Expands Residential provision

Derby College has expanded its residential accommodation offer to enable students from further afield to live at the Broomfield Hall campus in Morley seven days a week in term time.

The accommodation, which has an ‘Outstanding’ rating from Ofsted, is currently available Sunday evenings to Friday for students aged 16 and above.
