Local Talent Invited To Perform at Derby Festé Milestone

Derbyshire-based performers are being invited to apply to be part of the tenth annual Derby Festé which will return to the city centre on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 September with a packed programme of spectacular family entertainment.
On Saturday the Cathedral Quarter, St Peters Quarter and Intu Derby shopping centre will be a bustling hub of street entertainment featuring more than 20 different acts including dance, aerial performance, theatre, comedy and contemporary circus.

A Level Students Face Nervous Wait For Results

Thousands of young people across Derbyshire are nervously waiting for their A level exam results which will be published on Thursday August 18.

They include more than 300 students at Derby College’s Joseph Wright sixth form centre who are hoping to emulate the success of last year’s cohort - achieving a 98% pass rate overall with 66% of them gaining A* to C grades.

Derby College Students Learn Skills In the Wild

A group of Derby College Animal Management students, based at Broomfield Hall, have returned from a 12-day field trip to Mankwe game reserve in South Africa as part of their course.

The 24-strong group had an insight into a wide range of skills including, conservation and research.  The trip included a wildebeest game capture, animal tracking, identification and sexing of different species, meeting lion cubs in a local zoo and a hot air balloon safari.

Derby College learners who are studying Higher Education programmes and who have contributed to student life through the Derby College Student Union have been recognised at an awards evening.

The Derby College Students’ Union FE & HE Celebration Event was held at the Roundhouse with certificates presented to the learners nominated.

Derbyshire People Highlight Positive Treatment and Care

Local people have spoken out about their positive experiences of health and social care services in the County in a new report published this week by public watchdog Healthwatch Derbyshire.

The report is based on 620 comments collated from patients, service users and members of the public across Derbyshire.

The findings of the survey: ‘what makes a positive experience?’ show that improving services to ensure a better experience for patients and the public need cost very little and in many cases, nothing at all.

Derby College Students Share ‘Stay Strong’ Message

Students at Derby College’s Ilkeston campus have teamed up with Fixers, a national organisation working with young people to share their past experiences to improve their future lives.

The students, who have learning difficulties and are on the Pathway to Working Life programme at the College, devised a campaign called ‘Stay Strong’.  They produced wristbands and created a leaflet with helpline contacts on a range of issues from bullying to bereavement.

Derby College’s Pioneering Employer Academy Programme Celebrates Success

Derby College’s Employer Academy programme, which has attracted widespread acclaim, has celebrated its first anniversary with a number of students progressing into jobs and apprenticeships. There are 14 established Employer Academies involving a wide range of businesses and students from across the College curriculum – particularly in priority vocational areas highlighted by D2N2.
