Derby Comedy Festival 2017

For the 4th year running Derby Comedy Festival returns from Friday 5th May to Sunday 14th May at venues across the city.

Organised by Furthest From The Sea CIC, Derby Live, Lost Boys, NCF Comedy, FFTS Events Ltd and Funhouse Comedy, this year’s festival promises to be ‘rammed with the best national, local and emerging comedy talent’, and includes performances by Lee Hurst, Patrick Monahan, Imran Yusuf, and much much more!

"Furthest from the Sea Music, Comedy & Arts receive major Arts Council England boost

Derbyshire based Furthest From The Sea Music, Comedy and Arts CIC are delighted to announce we have been awarded our first Grants for the Arts Award from Arts Council England. This grant will support this year’s ‘Furthest From The Sea’ Festival, taking place across the Cathedral Quarter, Derby on Saturday 17th June from 11am till 4pm. 

Established in 2013, The Furthest From The Sea Festival is a one day free family festival showcasing and celebrating the diverse Derbyshire arts scene, pairing home-grown emerging talent with established artists living and working in the region.

Each year the National Association of Choirs (East Midlands Region) stage a major concert and this year Mansfield & District Male Voice Choir are privileged to host this wonderful event.

Five excellent and contrasting choirs will be taking to the stage: ‘Erewash Phoenix Choir’, ‘Pye Hill and District Male Voice Choir’, ‘The Gentlemen’, ‘Sonara Singers’ and of course ‘Mansfield and District Male Voice Choir’. All choirs are highly regarded in their local communities and further afield!

The Hannells Darley Park Concert

Derby City Council is pleased to announce that Hannells will be the headline sponsor for this year’s Darley Park Concert. The Concert will be taking place on Sunday 3 September in the stunning natural amphitheatre of Darley Park.

The Mayor of Matlock Cllr Brian Smith presented the award for the Matlock Photographer of the Year to Peter Keeble at the Annual Town Meeting on Monday 8th May.

Matlock Photographer of the Year was introduced in 2011 by Matlock Town Council and invites residents and visitors to submit photographs on a theme chosen by Councillors each year.

Company Chameleon and Déda take dance to mental health patients in hospital in Derby.

On Friday 19th May, patients at the Radbourne Unit, a mental health care unit in Derby, can look forward to a visit from touring dance theatre company, Company Chameleon. The Manchester-based Company, which tours the world performing, is visiting the unit to perform and deliver a dance workshop.

Spring is in the air and local organisation, Wash Arts CIC has announced its new series of exciting sessions for its community based gardening scheme hosted at the Arena Community Allotment on Heanor Road, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7 8DY.

'Horti- Culture’, a way of encouraging locals to have a go at growing their own fruit and veg' at a nearby Ilkeston allotment, is ready for the next influx of participants.
