Derby Folk Festival Takes To the Rooftops For Unique Performance

Four musicians from Derby-based East Midlands’ orchestra Sinfonia Viva will play a special commission from the 212 foot high Tudor tower at Derby Cathedral on Saturday October 7 as part of the Derby Folk Festival.

The first 15 minute performance will start after the Smith of Derby carillon plays its midday tune on the oldest working set of ten bells in the world and will then be repeated after the hour is chimed at 3pm and 5pm.

Creative exploration & quality arts experiences were orchestrated during a visit of 19 international students from India. Tibshelf school students plus 6 local primaries were involved, giving them memorable and exciting exposure to working with creative industry experts.
 
Some young people had the opportunity to become co-producers: being empowered to learn and share skills and commission, coordinate and lead events.
 

'FOOTFALL' - Peter Cartwright - Opens at The Old Lock Up Gallery

The Old Lock Up Gallery is excited to announce the opening of Peter Cartwright's Solo Show 'FOOTFALL' on the 16th September from 2.30 - 6.30pm.  The show then continues until 4th Nov 2017.

Peter Cartwright's work spans five decades and we are delighted to be showing some stunning recent pieces of work by Peter in the gallery for our first solo show.

Derby Feste Gorilla Circus Will Bring Two-tonnes of steel rigging and a head for heights!

We caught up with Ezra Triggs, Director of Gorilla Circus and chatted to him about what they are looking forward to the most at this years event.

“Circus has its roots firmly in the UK, but homegrown circuses touring the UK are now a rare sight. I set up Gorilla Circus nine years ago to change this. My team and I are so pleased that our brand new show Altitude will be headlining Derby Festé’s World of Circus on Friday 29th September.

Round Britain voyage surpasses expectations for Derbyshire youngsters

Two young people from Derbyshire, who are in recovery from cancer, admitted the "really fun" adventure of taking part in the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust's epic four-month Round Britain 2017 challenge had surpassed all their expectations after they sailed into Liverpool at the end of the latest leg last week.

On Friday September 29th Spital Arts presents the first of the 2017-18 concerts with local band 'Some Antics'

With backgrounds in Classical, Jazz, Folk and Rock, SomeAntics blend songs and instrumentals to create their own style of music.
