Little Mix to headline Donington Park, 1st July 2017

Donington Park and Music Plus Sport are excited to announce that LITTLE MIX will be bring their Summer Shout Out show to Donington Park on Saturday 1st July 2017.

Little Mix will perform their signature hits, including ‘Shout Out to My Ex’, ‘Black Magic’, 'Hair' and 'Wings', alongside tracks from their new album 'Glory Days'.

Creative Residents Earn Prize For Care Home

Family-owned funeral directors G Wathall & Son have presented a Spondon care home with a microphone and speaker system as a thank you to residents for their creativity.

Wathall’s invited residents at Willowcroft, a 60-bed care home run by older person’s charity MHA in Nottingham Road, to design a Christmas card for the firm.

The residents promptly set about creating their designs as part of regular arts and craft activity sessions.

New Creative Project Brings Education, Music and Industry Together

Derby-based regional orchestra Sinfonia Viva has teamed up with world-leading power systems company Rolls-Royce plc, Derbyshire Music Education Hub and Derby Museums to launch a creative project that focuses on bringing science, technology and maths to life through music.

The project, entitled ‘Mechanical Advantage’ has been inspired by the gears, levers and pulleys aspects of the key stage two national curriculum following feedback from school teachers about the need to tackle the subject in a more creative way.

First Staunton Harold Triathlon Announced by HUUB Events

Derby-based HUUB Events has teamed up with the Staunton Harold Estate to organise the first ever triathlon event there this summer.

The 2000 acre family-owned estate will host the triathlon on Sunday June 11 with competitors having the choice of two different distances.

The Super sprint will start with a 400m swim in the lake and then a 14km bike ride and 4km run through the estate. The Sprint distance course will be a 750m swim, 28km bike and 8km run. A junior event with shorter distances is also being planned.

Sinfonia Viva Anniversary Year – Touching More People’s Live

Sinfonia Viva, the East Midlands’ only professional orchestra, will mark its 35th anniversary this year by enabling more people than ever to experience creative music making.

As well as a packed concert programme across the region and beyond, Viva is aiming to work directly with 3,500 people over the next 12 months through a series of education and community creative projects. 

These will include young people aged one to 21, older people with dementia, carers, hospitals and hospices as well as young people and adults with learning difficulties.

Bongo Fury at Derby Cathedral

Internationally renowned musicians O Duo will bring their unique and energetic percussion performance to Derby Cathedral for the first time on Friday February 10 as part of the Twilights concert series.

Musicians Oliver Cox and Owen Gunnell will perform a special one-hour concert starting at 6pm entitled ‘Bongo Fury’.

Local Artist Launches Year-Long Exhibition at Déda

A local artist, who has spent the past three years creating three pieces of artwork a day using recycled and reused materials, has launched the first of a series of exhibitions at regional dance house Déda in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter.

Del Coombs (70), is a University of Derby graduate where he has also worked for 20 years as a cleaner. and collects most of the materials used in his creations during his early morning shifts.

He will be staging 13 different four-week exhibitions at Déda over the coming year.
