A double wedding celebration sparked a new business idea for husband and wife team Steve and Kay Croot.

The couple, who run Croots Farm Shop in Derbyshire, celebrated their silver wedding anniversary on 1st September. This came two weeks after Kay’s parents Jim and Sue Yates marked their golden wedding anniversary.

When planning a joint celebration at the farm near Duffield, the couple decided that it was such an ideal place to hold a wedding reception that they should open it up to others.

Physical Theatre Course Launched At Déda

A new Physical Theatre course has been launched at Déda in Derby, which aims to improve budding actors’ understanding of the different aspects of Physical Theatre.

The first course – Physical Theatre and Comedy – starts at the venue in Chapel Street on Thursday September 17 with a second course focusing on Physical Theatre and Performance starting on November 12.

Both are run by accomplished actor and director Gerry Flanagan who runs Shifting Sands Theatre Company in Matlock.

Buxton Festival Fringe becomes 500th member to sign up for Made In Derbyshire

Buxton Festival Fringe has become the 500th member to sign up to the ‘Made in Derbyshire’ campaign celebrating everything that’s great about the county.

Derbyshire County Council is a lead partner in the campaign working with other local councils, cultural groups and tourism organisations to promote and boost the local economy through its products, culture, festivals and sporting events.

Local arts and music groups are being encouraged to sign up alongside businesses, museums and tourist destinations – and Buxton Festival Fringe is the 500th to sign up.

Academy Launched To Train Budding Chefs

Derby College has expanded its innovative Employer Academy programme to address the growing demand for skilled chefs.

The College has teamed up with The Finesse Collection to launch the Professional Cookery Academy this September.

Young people will work towards their level two food preparation course based at the College’s training kitchens and Engine Shed restaurant at the Roundhouse in Pride Park with specialist master classes, projects and workplace visits.

The Buxton Spa Prize 2015– Over 100 artists entered

Over 100 artists and guests attended The Buxton Spa Prize awards event and exhibition launch at The Green Man Gallery on Thursday 16 July. The extensive exhibition featured work by over 100 artists of all ages and abilities who painted the town in the open air (en plein air) during May and June.. The prize which was successfully launched in 2014 aims to raise the profile of artists and their work and further enhance Buxton’s national reputation as a centre for arts and culture.

Latest Employer Academy Focuses on Marketing and Product Development Skills

Business students at Derby College will be working with the UK’s leading designers of triathlon wetsuits, apparel and accessories thanks to a new partnership initiative.

Students enrolling on the BTEC level three Business course at the College this September will have the chance to join the new Huub Marketing and Product Development Academy.

Students will gain valuable work experience at Derby-based Huub Design, take part in marketing and product development projects and will have a guaranteed interview with the growing company at the end of their two-year course.

Derby College Students Commended For Volunteer Work

Health and Social Care students at Derby College have been recognised for their voluntary work at Derby’s two hospitals.

Derby Teaching Hospitals held their annual Volunteer Long Service Awards at the Royal Derby Hospital recently where volunteers were recognised for their efforts.

A group of nine Derby College students who are on the Level two and three Health and Social Care programme at the Roundhouse in Derby’s Pride Park, were nominated for the Student Volunteer of the Year award as part of the ceremony.
