Bewitching vocals at Buxton Fringe!
Music remains one of the busiest sections of the Fringe calendar, with a variety and range of styles that truly provides something for everybody, the human voice always proving particularly compelling.
There is a host of vocal performances including full-scale choirs, solo singers and much more. Adrienne Pyne & Stephenie Leung present Aaron Copland's complete 12 Poems of Emily Dickinson. Annette Gregory’s vocal interpretations move from jazz to reggae and soul. Meanwhile powerhouse vocalist Annie Duggan’s performance includes jazz, blues and Americana alongside guitarist Rob Hines.
Popular local quartet Four Tell blends the traditional and contemporary while another quartet, VociVoices, presents a well-known selection from opera, operetta, musicals, swing, jazz. Barbershop favourites Close Enough return to the Pump Room with their trademark vocal acrobatics, and Fringe award-winning cabaret chanteuse Lili La Scala weaves a bewitching programme of sea-themed songs.
There are also a number of community choirs taking to stages around the town, including Buxton Community Choir, Kaleidoscope Choir, Chapel-en-le-Frith Ladies Choir and Ordsall A Cappella Singers. Fans of opera will also enjoy City of Manchester Opera with a concert of favourites that in this coronation year celebrates kings, queens and other royal figures, while Ukrainian soprano Anastasia Trubaieva joins forces with pianist Eden Walker in an evening of classical songs.
At the end of the Fringe there is a chance to enjoy the award-winning vocals of acoustic band NoJoKe performing at their Summer Beano in the beautiful setting of Serpentine Community Garden.
