The Monday Night Write

We always think there will be time to write.

We think when the washing is done. When the list to do is complete, when the kitchen table is tidy. We think we’ll then make time and space to write. But, more often than not, something ‘important’ crops up and steals our writing time away.

What if you made a commitment to your writing? What if you showed up and wrote that chapter you’ve been thinking about? What if you carved out some time in your busy week to draft the blog post that’s been burning in the back of your mind?

All profits form this show will go towards the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. This includes all profit from ticket sales and bar receipts. Derby Children’s Picture Book Award 2022 winner announced

The winner of Derby Book Festival’s fourth Derby Children’s Picture Book Award is announced today (8 April).  The winning book, from a shortlist of three, is The Tale of the Whale by Karen Swann and Padmacandra (Scallywag Press) in a very close contest.   The children, in Years 2&3 at 45 Derby schools, voted for their favourite book on Voting Day, 6 April having read the three shortlisted books in their classes.  The book has a strong message about plastic pollution and its impact on the natural world.  

DCG Contribution To The Queen’s Green Canopy Takes Root

The first phase of Derby College Group’s contribution to the nationwide tree planting initiative to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee has been launched.

DCG is planning to plant 1,000 trees over the next five years to create a new woodland entitled Little Park Wood at Broomfield Hall land-based college in Morley.

DCG Students Complete Coveted Course To Inspire Next Generation Of Filmmakers

Film Studies students based at Derby College Group’s Joseph Wright Centre have presented their original work which they have created as part of the BFI Film Academy course at a gala screening at Derby’s QUAD.

The group of 12 students were accepted on the prestigious course which has been run by QUAD alongside their level 3 College study programme.

A Level and GCSE plus students and staff at Derby College Group’s Joseph Wright Centre have raised £884 which has been split between Cancer Research UK and Derbyshire MIND.

Future Plumbers Gain First Hand Experience Of Tooling Capabilities

A market leading manufacturer has teamed up with Derby College Group (DCG) to help train the next generation of plumbers.

German-owned Rothenberger has donated tools worth more than £2,500 to DCG’s Plumbing department and regional sales manager Anthony Haynes recently visited the College to demonstrate a wide range of equipment to full time students and apprentices.

NHS and Further Education Collaboration Embeds Future Talent Pipeline

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust has partnered with Derby College Group to support the Trust’s administration and clerical workforce development plans.

Under the new collaboration, Derby College Group has firstly launched a short course for adults wanting to apply for Administration and Clerical roles at the Trust.
