The new Normanton Library was officially opened to the public today, marking the start of four days of events to celebrate and showcase the new community facilities.

Acclaimed artist David Manley has donated one of his land and seascape-inspired paintings for a silent auction to support the community engagement programme at Déda – the city-based organisation that aims to enrich people’s lives through dance and the arts.
The 15” by 12” painting entitled ‘Cape Poem’ was recently on display as part of the ‘A Riotous Assembly’ exhibition at Déda in Chapel Street and would usually sell for around £120.

Super-Powering Girls and their Grannies
We are excited to announce that we have received almost £60,000 from Arts Council England and the Lottery’s AWA fund to mount a ground-breaking new aerial theatre show for families. Aidy the Awesome is an aerial theatre show about 8 year-old Aidy who discovers she is a superhero after her grandmother tells her a secret- all women in their family have super powers.
It is been a busy month I've had some amazing commissions and sales and I'm loving how my work has been framed by my client. It has really made me rethink my own framing choices.
As artists, we have to be neutral and cater to all tastes but the treatment of my Ilkeston piece pictured really impressed me.
The ITAC Collaborative, the first international network for the participatory arts, has now launched a new purpose-built website. The site www.itac-collaborative.com has been designed in response to a consultation with more than 300 teaching artists from 28 countries, conducted during ITAC’s most recent international conference - ITAC4 at Carnegie Hall (2018) in NYC, USA.
We have a new group of paintings in the gallery by Mark Preston. These are all of Derbyshire, painted en plein air throughout 2019, reflecting the seasonal diversity of the Derbyshire Peak District.
Mark usually works in situ, spending very little time painting in his studio. Influenced by the great English painter John Constable, Mark has been known to remain out of doors at his easel from dawn until dusk working directly from nature, whatever the weather.

Derby Concert Band’s Christmas Festival Concert is on Saturday 21 December 2019 at 7.30pm at St Johns Church, Mill Street, Derby DE1 3HZ. This is our traditional Christmas concert with special guests Voices Choir, featuring festive treats and seasonal favourites with plenty of carols to sing along to.

It is 1995. A long serving history master, a shell of his former self, is alone in an empty classroom in a rough North Nottinghamshire comprehensive school in an ultra conservative colliery town. He is recovering from a severe breakdown which destroyed his credibility and confidence leaving him depressed and disorientated. Some pupils and staff had turned this sad case into an object of fun inflicting humiliating hurtful episodes. A steady torturous drip made his position untenable. He was unable to discharge professional duties. Effectively, gay hate had terminated a teaching career.
A poetry Reading from the brand new anthology from Beautiful Dragons Collaborations will be held at the Pump Room at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday 30 November. Entry is free. Donation for drinks. Books will be on sale.

Buxton Fringe is inviting everyone to celebrate the opening of entries to the 2020 Fringe with a festive Village Carols sing-along.

Kinder Choirs of the High Peak will be performing a selection of the most loved and well-known choral classics when they sing at Buxton Opera House on Sunday 12th January.

With the shops already piled high with Christmas gifts, not to mention mountains of seasonal food, it’s easy to feel less than enthusiastic about the festive season ahead. But there’s one sure-fire way to get into the true Christmas spirit and that’s by attending one of the heavenly, candlelit concerts presented by Kinder Choirs of the High Peak.
On Saturday 9th November a very special concert took place at St. Wilfrid’s Church, Kirkby in Ashfield, by the Pye Hill & District Male Voice Choir and special guests which raised the staggering amount of £1,016.00 for the Alzheimer’s Society ‘Dementia Choir’, to support its work within the local community and beyond.

Lovable children’s character Peppa Pig will make a guest appearance in Derby Cathedral Quarter on Saturday December 7 as part of the Business Improvement District’s packed programme of free festive street entertainment.

Lucy is originally from Holloway, and moved to London in 2010 to study to become an opera singer at The Guildhall School where she met her husband, Jevan McAuley.
Since their last ‘A Christmas Song’ concert in 2017, Lucy has been singing at Glyndebourne as part of the Summer festival, and is now with them on their UK tour.

Hundreds of people attended the 2019 Derby Telegraph Sports Awards ceremony to honour the sportsmen and sportswomen of Derbyshire at Bondholder The Roundhouse last night.
The ceremony was organised in association with Bondholders Champions UK plc and sponsored by Smith Partnership.

Father-of-two Adam, of Wirksworth, Derbyshire, started inventing games as a boy testing out ideas with his brother in the garage of their childhood home and he’s carried on ever since.
A few years ago this entrepreneurial drive prompted him to combine his love of wine and his love of games.

On 29 November we will be screening three ghostly films in the Museum on the Wardwick! The Innocents (12A) will be showing at 6pm, Beetlejuice (12A) will be showing at 8pm and Ring (15) will be showing at 10.20pm. The Triple Header is showing as part of the UK Ghost Story Festival and screened in collaboration with Derby QUAD. Grab your popcorn and we'll see you there for a frightful evening of film!
It is just a matter of weeks until Peter Pan flies into Derby Arena for Christmas 2019. Derby LIVE and Little Wolf Entertainment are really excited to be hosting the annual pantomime for the third year running, from Saturday 7 December to Saturday 4 January.
This year’s talented cast include Best Dame nominee Morgan Brind, Emmerdale and Coronation Street’s Bill Ward and Katrina Bryan from CBeebies' Nina and the Neurons and Molly & Mack.

We have a group of new paintings by Kristan Baggaley arriving in the gallery. These three large canvases were painted in response to the weather across Alport Moor, depicting the water logged moorland. At four feet by three feet, they have the scale to capture the dramatic effects of weather across this ancient landscape.

This weekend is our Christmas Craft Fair at Artcore, Albert Street from 11am-5pm. There will be works created by artists, designers, local makers and our participants from our Create Your Future project. We hope to see you there.
Artcore is organizing a Residency project titled Winter Narratives, for artists in both the UK & Vadodara, India, and will include a selection of 7 artists, 2 from the East Midlands and 5 from within India.
We have a number of opportunities happening at Artcore over 2020 and beyond. We’d like to invite you to our Artist Meet and discuss with you about future projects, workshops and our artistic programme. This will be an opportunity to find out more about Artcore and how to get involved with our activities and programmes.

Bondholder Derby Theatre has won the inaugural Excellence in Arts Education Award at the annual UK Theatre Awards - the only nationwide awards to honour and celebrate the outstanding achievements of regional and national theatre throughout the UK.
The Theatre won the award in recognition of its learning theatre vision and in specific celebration of This is Derby - a unique project delivered with other cultural and sports organisations in the city to provide a broad range of experiences to young people.
Talented Derbyshire singing group, Peak Voices, which formed in November last year, have not only wowed audiences locally but across the UK with their successful and highly acclaimed shows. They will shortly be launching into their second performance year with a spectacular gala charity show in aid of Bakewell Youth theatre and the Bakewell Medway Community Centre at the Medway Centre this Christmas! Following sell out shows, standing ovations and rave reviews in their two tours this year, tickets for this must see extravaganza are selling fast!

We're delighted to welcome the group InSPIREation 21 to the Barn this week. The textile group, who are based in Chesterfield, will be in our courtyard room till Saturday 10th November. Investigatory Power curated by Mareike Spendel is an exhibition by Derbyshire artist Rose Butler, bringing together the artist’s own photographic work captured in the UK Houses of Parliament with video footage and imagery selected from the Stasi Records Agency film and video archive. The exhibition runs in Berlin until 4 January 2020 and opens to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Delta Air Lines has announced it will be adding a further two Airbus A330neo aircraft to its fleet powered by Bondholder Rolls-Royce's Trent 7000 engines, designed, developed and built in Derby.
The extra aircraft will take Delta’s total A330neo fleet to 37, with all engines covered by Rolls-Royce’s TotalCare flagship maintenance service.
