A man inside a giant balloon, the UK’s fastest magician and a juggler that juggles with almost anything, together with some tasty grub and the choice of how much to pay for a ticket is the essence of two new events coming to South Normanton and Clay Cross at the end of October and beginning of November, hoping to bring local people together to shape some of the cultural happenings in their communities.

Celebrity bioarchaeologist Dr Cat Jarman kicks off this year’s Repton Literary Festival with a talk about the unique finds during her recent dig in the village, shedding new light on Viking life in 9^th century Repton.

Following up her BBC TV Digging for Britain and Channel 4 TV’s Britain’s Viking Graveyard programmes she explores the arrival of the Great Heathen Army of Vikings which settled for a winter in Repton in 873 AD.  She will talk about the legendary Repton Warrior buried next to another Viking in the UK’s most famous Viking grave.

'Where the bodies are buried' with Stephen Booth is a talk with Derbyshire crime writer Stephen Booth who explores the importance of Derbyshire and Peak District locations to his novels.

Join us this winter for a weekend celebration of one of the most beloved forms of fiction – the ghost story. From the classics of Charles Dickens and MR James to modern favourites such as The Woman in Black, The Little Stranger and more, the ghost story has long fascinated audiences around the world. 
 
The UK Ghost Story Festival will be presenting a host of readings, author interviews, talks, film screenings, workshops and much more, taking place around one of the UK’s most haunted cities.  
 

My first novel comes out in e form on 31st Oct and in paperback form on 23rd Jan. It’s being published by Bonnier Zaffre and my agent is Kate Barker.  
 
The novel is called Lily’s War and is a book loosely based on my parents’ wartime romance; my mum was a WAAF with Bomber Command and my dad was a tank transporter driver in the 8th Army.  
 

We're excited to announce the return of Write on Art, our annual prize for young art writers aged 15–18, sponsored in partnership with the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
