FORMAT in partnership with GRAIN (Birmingham) and QUAD (Derby) are delighted to announce the new iteration of their successful East Meets West masterclass programme, which will take place online.

The masterclass programme is for emerging photographers and offers professional development, inspiration, guidance and support in a collaborative learning environment in order to allow photographers to develop their practice, networks and new unique opportunities.

Buxton Art Trail takes to the boulevard!

The Fringe Award-winning Buxton Art Trail is reinventing itself as an outdoor exhibition on Buxton’s beautiful Broad Walk this year.

The Pavilion Gardens event, entitled Art on the Railings, is designed to capture some of the atmosphere of the Montmartre art district in Paris, and takes place on Saturday July 10th from 10am to 4.30pm as part of the Buxton Fringe.

A host of local artists will be showing a wide variety of work on the railings and selling cards and artworks, often at bargain prices.

Level Centre: We Need Your Help!

LEVEL Centre is collaborating with film maker Solene Guichard to create a short animation, ‘Flying Under The Radar’, a documentary to be displayed at LEVEL Centre this autumn.

To inform the research for this commission, Solene is looking to gather stories of the experiences of people who identify as female, being diagnosed with autism post 18 years of age. The findings will inform a short animation, directed by film maker Solene which will be exhibited at LEVEL Centre from September 2021.

Villainous Prize For DCG Student

Derby College Group (DCG) Media Make Up student Phoebe Child has clinched the top prize in a competition run for students by London theatrical make up specialists Kryolan UK.

The company devised an enrichment project for the Roundhouse-based students who were set the challenge to design, create and submit photographs of an original make up design on the theme of theatrical villains.

Phoebe Child (18) from Belper was chosen as the winner for her design which she applied on herself (pictured).

Derby’s Iconic Shopping Parade Fully Occupied

All the business premises in one of Derby Cathedral Quarter’s most iconic streets is now either occupied or under offer, according to commercial property agent Trevor Raybould.

The Strand’s latest occupant is long-established Derby tailor Ashley Buckley who has moved from a first floor studio in Iron Gate into beautifully refurbished street level premises where he continues to offer bespoke men’s tailoring and alterations.

Exhibition at Elvaston Castle

'Epic Forest - An inner walk through the seasons' is a new Artist in Residence Exhibition by Howie Johnson, taking place this year in Gothic Hall at Elvaston Castle.

The main feature of the exhibition is that you will be able to walk through the four seasons in the woods; with Howie's photographic images printed onto large chiffons. Other prints will also be available to view.

Guided Walks Unlock Historic Tales of Derby Ram Trail Backdrop

Free guided heritage and ghost walks have been organised around the city centre as part of the activity programme to coincide with the popular Derby Ram Trail this summer.

Derby Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), in partnership with Derby Museums, have organised the guided walks to showcase the areas’ hidden treasures which are the historic backdrop to the Derby Ram Trail as well as the ghostly stories linked to the landmark buildings and events.
