Belper Welcomes Operababes in Concert

For over twenty years soprano Rebecca Knight and Derbyshire born Karen England  have performed across the world as the OperaBabes. Having taken a break, the duo return to the concert stage at St. Peter's Church, Belper on 19 November.

Tickets go on sale for Derby Book Festival

Tickets have gone on sale for the autumn edition of the Derby Book Festival which is being headlined by TV presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star Dan Walker.

The city’s popular literary event will run from November 4th to 6th and names including Sunday Times bestseller Raynor Winn have already been announced.

Tickets can be booked for individual events and this year a Festival Pass is available providing access to multiple events.

Derbyshire History Makers celebrated in new exhibition exploring History - Herstory - Mystory - Theirstory - Ourstory

A new exhibition and project lab - History Makers: A celebration of Derbyshire women and gender diversity - opens this week at Derby Museum and Art Gallery and will run until February 2023.

Content for the exhibition has been years in the making, developed from feedback from visitors, volunteers and community members about the lack of representation for both women and gender diversity within the museums’ galleries.

Eyam Village Bonfire and Firework Display

Come and celebrate Eyam Village Bonfire and Firework Display on Saturday 5th November.  Entertainment starts in the village square from 5.30pm.  The torch-lit music-led procession of the infamous ‘Willow RAT’ leaves at 6.15pm, carrying it through the village to the chants of ‘Burn the Rat’ up to the playing fields.  The RAT is laid on the spectacular bonfire which is then followed by our fabulous firework display.

Tree planting company branching out to help Derbyshire children’s charity

A tree growing enterprise dedicated to cutting carbon emissions has branched out into supporting a much-loved children’s holiday charity too.

Co-Treetment, a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2019 to help companies and individuals offset their CO2 by planting trees, has launched a new scheme to benefit the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre.

UNESCO International Literacy Day Thursday 8 September Since 1967, UNESCO International Literacy Day (ILD) celebrations have taken place annually around the world to remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society.

Despite progress made, literacy challenges persist with at least 771 million young people and adults, around the world, lacking basic literacy skills today.

World Suicide Prevention Day

Saturday 10 September is World Suicide Prevention Day – an annual event which aims to start open, frank conversations around suicide and what we can all do to help prevent it.
