Call for youth groups to join St George’s Day celebrations

Derby’s annual St George’s Day celebrations take place on Saturday 18 April, and a call has gone out for local children’s and youth groups who want to follow St George and his Dragon’s footsteps in the traditional city centre parade.

Produced by Derby LIVE, the outdoor event has grown in scope and popularity in recent years to become a family-friendly celebration of English tradition and heritage in all its eccentricities.

Bakewell Youth Theatre – Guys & Dolls

The talented youngsters of the renowned Bakewell Youth Theatre will be bringing another impressive musical to the Medway Community Centre, Bakewell. Guys & Dolls will be performed at the Community Centre on the 5th, 6th and 7th March, 7.30pm.

Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, Guys and Dolls features well known songs including ‘Luck Be a Lady’ and ‘Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat’.

Writing for Wellbeing workshop with Leonie Martin

Writing for Wellbeing workshop with Leonie Martin, Saturday 7th March 10:30 - 12:30 at Chesterfield Library. Try Writing for Wellbeing at this taster workshop at Chesterfield Library. Using a series of fun and engaging prompts based on the five senses and the theme of Journeys, you’ll be encouraged to unlock your imagination and put pen to paper.  Working within a safe and respectful space, therapeutic writing can open the door to new voices, ideas and points of view that widen and deepen our own perspective, as well as offering a sense of achievement.

It Takes A Region To Raise An Artist, Event in Wirksworth 12 February

In February and March, at a series of events across the region, CVAN EM Director Elizabeth Hawley-Lingham will present the findings from "It Takes A Region To Raise An Artist", research commissioned in 2019 with CAMEo – the University of Leicester’s Research Institute for Cultural and Media Economies – into the East Midlands’ visual arts ecology.

From February 14th Derby Museums is inviting people to explore the making process and artistic progression of both modernist sculptor Ronald Pope and seven artists who have all won the Jonathan Vickers Fine Art Award and worked in Derbyshire to create work inspired by its landscape and people through two new linked exhibitions – Process and Progress.
