News from Buxton International Festival

It's always an exciting moment to see a set design come together. The whole crew were thrilled to receive a delivery of the props and costumes for Donizetti's Viva La Diva from Saltzburg State Theatre last week.

Thornbridge Brewery & White Peak Distillery’s Christmas Collaboration

At White Peak Distillery, we have a special, local collaboration with our friends at Thornbridge Brewery.

A limited edition gift set which is a Derbyshire take on a traditional 'Boilermaker' (simply put, a beer and a whisky enjoyed together). And every gift set sold will raise money for the volunteer heroes on the Derby Mountain Rescue Team!

The gift set is £26 and is available on-line now for pre-order via our website for despatch on or around 4th December (click and collect from 5th).

White Peak Distillery Pop Up in Wirksworth in December

With a Tier 3 rating, difficult times again lie ahead for local businesses in the entertainment and hospitality sectors. At White Peak Distillery, we've had to extend the suspension of our distillery tours until the new year and with this close our Distillery shop (open one last time on Saturday 28th November).

So it’s heart-warming that our friends at The Northern Light Cinema, another local business closed under Tier 3, have agreed to let us open a pop-up shop at their premises in the heart of Wirksworth.

Re-Brand Project Success

Digital Multimedia Students at Derby College Group’s Joseph Wright Centre have designed new logos for the Ed Tech and Libraries for Learning teams.

The Level 3 Creative Media Production and Technology students were invited to pitch their logo ideas for the competition organised by TLA Lead Mark Dickson and Advanced Practitioner Catherine Guerrero and the winners have been announced.

Lucia Hardy received a WACOM One Graphics tablet and runner up Sophie Buglione was presented £30 gift voucher from Amazon.

Wathall’s Memorial Service Goes Online

The Annual Celebration of Remembrance and Hope gives families time to remember loved ones as Christmas approaches.

Family-owned Wathall’s, Derby’s longest-established independent funeral directors, have teamed up with Derby Cathedral to ensure that local people can still take time to remember their loved ones with a special pre-recorded service that will be available online.

First held in 2008, Wathall’s annual Celebration of Remembrance and Hope is usually attended by more than 800 people at the Cathedral.

Keeping Derby on the move through lockdown

Among the key workers praised during the coronavirus pandemic, the bus driver stands alongside the supermarket staff, the delivery driver and many others who we could simply not have managed without. Health workers were rightly applauded as the heroes, saving lives while risking their own. But for so many Derbyshire people, the bus has been and remains a lifeline.

Virtual Santa Aims To Spread Festive Cheer

The Rotary Club of Derby has adapted its annual Santa Sleigh to spread joy and excitement to even more children this year and raise much needed funds for two charities who support some of the most vulnerable local young people. In normal times, the Club Santa Sleigh would visit families in Derby suburbs in return for donations. Due to the pandemic, such close contact may not be possible even in December, but organisers are determined not to disappoint children who traditionally enjoy seeing and meeting Santa in the approach to Christmas.
