A long-established local business has been given a fresh lease of life under new ownership and by relocation back into the city.
This summer we aim for over 50 independent retailers on the streets of Glossop, Hadfield, Charlesworth, Gamesley and Simmondley to take part in Art in the Window - Glossopdale; literally providing a shop window for artists and artisan makers in the Glossop area.
This year’s event is run by Glossop Arts Project and the Art in the Window team in collaboration with Glossopdale Trust. The exhibition event will take place from 1st – 31st August 2016.
We are looking for amateur and professional artists as well as local students to display their work.
This month we're delighted to be sharing a beautiful poem , Missing My Mum, by Mimi.
Mimi is a refugee from Ethiopia who has lived in the UK since July 2015.
Along with 52 other poets she took part in the Sheffield Poemathon on 2nd April, which raised £14,000 for charities that support refugees and destitute asylum seekers.
Engineering students at Derby College have spent a week gaining an insight into the advanced composites manufacturing business at epm:technology’s £6 million manufacturing, research and development facility in Derby.
The students, who are all studying level three Engineering study programmes at the College’s Roundhouse campus, are members of the epm:technology Employer Academy at Derby College. The programme is part of Derby College’s wider initiative in partnership with businesses across the East Midlands to bridge the gap between education and world of work.
Animal Care learners at Derby College’s Broomfield Hall are preparing to release three hedgehogs back into the wild (Thursday May 5) having spent the winter looking after them.
The three hedgehogs, which learners have named Apollo, Zeus and Barry, were all found locally last Autumn and were too small and under-nourished to hibernate. They were taken in by the Animal Care department and learners have kept them at a constant indoor temperature to keep them awake and ensured they have been well fed over the winter months.

UK Young Artists (UKYA) is looking to appoint a Freelance Evaluator to gauge the success and impact of our forthcoming National Festival: Derby 2016. Working with the support of the UKYA team you will be responsible for monitoring activities leading up to and including the event, in November 2016. In addition to the festival we will be holding a development weekend in October, to which a small number of artists will come and try out work in progress and for those working site specifically to view locations etc. in advance.
East Midlands’ regional orchestra Sinfonia Viva will be joined by 1623 Theatre Company Artistic Director Ben Spiller for a unique concert on Thursday June 9, celebrating the art of storytelling through words and music.
Derbyshire farm shop Croots will be throwing open the gates to the farm as part of a nationwide event to showcase British farming.
Venues and businesses in the Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) will be hosting a wide range of events as part of this year’s Derby Comedy Festival.
