A new Children’s Picture Book Award has been launched by Derby Book Festival to
celebrate picture books that children can relate to and in which the diversity and challenges
of modern life are represented.
The Festival, which will be held for the fifth time in 2019 from 31 May to 8 June, has invited
children’s publishers to submit up to three books, published in 2018, which meet these
criteria. Over 20 books were submitted by the closing date of 31 December 2018 and nine
books have been selected for the longlist (see Appendix for books and authors).
The Christmas Toy Shop Mystery – The Babbling Vagabonds will return to the Guildhall Theatre for Christmas 2019
A special exhibition commemorating the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, will see 12 of the Renaissance Master’s great drawings from the Royal Collection go on display at Derby Museum and Art Gallery from 1st February to 6th May.

The next Spital Arts gig, in conjunction with Live & Local is the amazing Alma Gitana Flamenco night.
Alma Gitana are an acclaimed Spanish Flamenco ensemble of voice, guitar and dancer, brimming with Andalucian passion, power and technical command, delivering both slow, grand emotion and driving gunfire rhythms with Lourdes Fernande's 'zapateado' heels hammering the floor. Thrilling footwork, extraordinary singing, outstanding guitar. A fantastico show that is simply not to be missed!

This week the Artcore staff have been busy preparing for our weekly workshops with start up again from Saturday 12th with Innocence and Expression for our children. Our adult workshops will also recommence on Monday 14th January. We can't wait to see you all after the break!
