Live & Local launches Autumn/Winter 2023/24 Season of Live Shows in Rural Derbyshire
Live & Local announces its new Autumn/Winter 2023/24 season of professional performances in community venues across Derbyshire: dance & drama, poetry & puppetry, folk & funk – in short, there is something for everybody. Live & Local continues facilitating surprising shows in surprising places by supporting local volunteers to bring exciting and awe-inspiring shows for all ages to a village hall or community venue near you.

Well, our Live & Local autumn season is fast approaching, we are looking forward to a great selection of entertainment to take us right over the Christmas period!
Look out for some comedy theatre, some more thought-provoking drama, plenty of music and dance, as well as some festive-themed shows for December! There'll be lots of exciting new performers for you to check out, as well as returning favourites for you to catch up with, so have a look at our What's On Guide or see our website to get some great ideas for fantastic evenings out in your area!
Live & Local regulars Pentabus perform their brand new play Driftwood by award-winning writer Tim Foley at Tideswell Community Hall on Friday 20 October and at Morton Village Hall on Saturday 21 October.
Treat your little ones to Snug and Grub Catch a Bug – an organic adventure full of colorful puppets, clowning and foot-tapping music at Dove Holes Village Hall on Saturday 28 October.
New faces on the programme are Contemporary Folk Duo Filkin’s Drift who bring folklore, their original tunes and traditional songs to Sutton on the Hill Village Hall on Saturday 18 November.
Also new on the programme is first-class storyteller Phil Okwedy with The Gods Are All Here, sparked by the discovery of a series of letters from his father in Nigeria to his mother in Wales. A one-man performance not to be missed at Doe Lea Resource Centre on Saturday 25 November. Also there on Saturday 27 January is Quick Duck Theatre with Yours Sincerely where storytelling and lip-sync cabaret collide in a queer coming-of-age comedy about the complications of 21st-century communication.
There are plenty more events to enjoy this season including Live & Local regular Blair Dunlop with his new show The Transatlantic Songbook; The Pocket Choral Society featuring their own unamplified songs and new arrangements from Lennon & McCartney, Lou Reed and Tom Waits; and, back by popular demand, Spilt Milk Dance with Desert Island Flicks, a comedy and dance whistle-stop tour through the most memorable films of the last 80 years.
