Good News & Up Coming Events at Haarlem Artspace

Haarlem Artspace

We were so thrilled to be featured in the Observer this last weekend! Thinking about the Rural as an economy and the effects of that in terms of Colonialism and our relationship to this seems very pertinent just now.  And reconsidering this history in light of the forthcoming Black History month and in view of the Black Lives Matter movement seems more urgent than ever.

We are incredibly grateful to have had Arts Council England funding for this important work. The online Haarlem Periodicals are live now, so you can explore each artist in re:rural from your own home in your own time. Or follow the artists' takeovers on our Instagram over the course of the exhibition.
Our gallery is fully covid 19 compliant, invigilated and open 11-4pm Saturdays & Sundays and there is no need to book. Work is situated both outside and inside. Find out more here.

Coming Up Soon! Woven / Ground

Collaborating with his partner, weave designer Angharad McLaren, Mexican born artist and Haarlem Co-director Geoff Diego Litherland presents Woven / Ground,  an exhibition featuring their hand woven, patterned linen canvases made from the flax they also grew and harvested.  These new paintings show images of the ground painted in earth pigments intermeshed with the pattern in the canvas. Different tensions are turned up or down to explore variations between order and chaos, digital and analogue, macro and micro. Like being immersed in natural environments, the paintings invite the viewer to find recognisable tropes, focus, and order among complexity. The accompanying by sound installation uses the weave patterns and field recordings to create an immersive audio counterpart. Online the Haarlem Periodical will premiere Within the Surface, a film by Gavin Repton that has followed the artist over the years, documenting the various processes involved in making the work.

Haarlem Artspace Online Crit

Haarlem Artspace Crit is a peer-group meet-up for creatives to share their work, receive feedback and develop their thinking. It’s open to anyone who would like to attend, contribute constructively and participate in a mutually supportive forum.

The Crits are an opportunity to offer peer support, gain mutual learning and establish networking opportunities with creatives across the region.

Two creatives will present at each crit, with each presenter given half an hour for discussion and sharing of their work.

Haarlem Artspace Crits will be hosted on Zoom, from 8-9pm, on the first Wednesday of every even numbered month, so will occur on the following dates –
