Art in the Window 2015 Glossopdale

This summer over 50 independent retailers in Glossop are taking part in Art in the Window 2015 transforming the streets into art galleries and providing local artists and artisan makers in the area the perfect opportunity to showcase their work.

Art in the Window will take place from the 1st August to 31st Bank Holiday Monday.

Advanced Composites Academy Prepares Students For Growing Job Opportunities

Derby College has teamed up with Derby-based epm:technology to boost the number of young people entering the workplace with skills in advanced composites manufacturing.

Applications are now being taken for the epm:technology Advanced Composites Academy which will start in September. An open day for potential students to find out more will be held at the Roundhouse on Tuesday July 14 between 3pm and 7pm.

Floral Decoration in Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter

The Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter Business Improvement Districts (BID’s) have teamed up with Derby City Council to install more than 40 colourful hanging baskets along the pedestrianised ‘spine’ of the city centre.

The BIDs have contributed £4,500 towards the project which has seen hanging baskets erected along Iron Gate, the Market Place and St Peter’s Street.

Derby College Students Commended For Volunteer Work

Health and Social Care students at Derby College have been recognised for their voluntary work at Derby’s two hospitals.

Derby Teaching Hospitals held their annual Volunteer Long Service Awards at the Royal Derby Hospital recently where volunteers were recognised for their efforts.

A group of nine Derby College students who are on the Level two and three Health and Social Care programme at the Roundhouse in Derby’s Pride Park, were nominated for the Student Volunteer of the Year award as part of the ceremony.

Déda Welcomes New Associate Artist

International contemporary dance artist Jorge Crecis has joined Déda in Derby as Associate Artist, supported by funding from Arts Council England.

Jorge will be working over the next year with the regional dance house, fellow Derby-based arts organisation QUAD as well as contemporary dance organisation The Place in London to create an innovative choreography which brings together sport, dance, music and augmented reality technology.

Poem a Month for July

This month's Made in Derbyshire poem was created during the Derbyshire Literature Festival at a workshop run by River Wolton at The Staveley Community Care Centre.  Participants shared their life stories which were shaped into this powerful poem. 

Forget-Me-Not

To look at me you’d never guess I own a thousand books
Or that meat and potato pie’s my favourite thing to cook,
That when the Sheffield Blitz was on we saw the sky ablaze,
Huddled in air-raid shelters for the best part of two days.

Dame For A Laugh - The Aardvark is Under-represented

After a successful run at Fairfield Halls, Croydon earlier this year, south-London based production company Dame for a Laugh bring their brand new children's musical Nana and Nunu - The Big Sneeze!  to the Buxton Fringe.

We took some time out to meet the show’s creators  Simon Sladen and Helen Friel. They spoke to us about this new show, including where they got the inspiration for a certain sneezing aardvark…
