International Arts Project Launched

An international project which will link visual and dance artists in Derby and India’s fastest growing city Vadodara has been launched thanks to Arts Council England (ACE) support.

Normanton-based visual arts charity Artcore and Derby-based regional dance house Déda applied for development funding from ACE to launch the project ‘Derby to Vadodara and Back’.

Having secured £30,000, representatives from Derby will be visiting Vadodara in October where they will meet leaders from arts organisations and the region’s university to finalise the project.

The Buxton Spa Prize 2015– Over 100 artists entered

Over 100 artists and guests attended The Buxton Spa Prize awards event and exhibition launch at The Green Man Gallery on Thursday 16 July. The extensive exhibition featured work by over 100 artists of all ages and abilities who painted the town in the open air (en plein air) during May and June.. The prize which was successfully launched in 2014 aims to raise the profile of artists and their work and further enhance Buxton’s national reputation as a centre for arts and culture.

Latest Employer Academy Focuses on Marketing and Product Development Skills

Business students at Derby College will be working with the UK’s leading designers of triathlon wetsuits, apparel and accessories thanks to a new partnership initiative.

Students enrolling on the BTEC level three Business course at the College this September will have the chance to join the new Huub Marketing and Product Development Academy.

Students will gain valuable work experience at Derby-based Huub Design, take part in marketing and product development projects and will have a guaranteed interview with the growing company at the end of their two-year course.

Summer Entertainment in the Cathedral Quarter

Visitors to Derby’s Cathedral Quarter will be treated to a host of entertainment this August with a wide range of free events.

The popular CQ Saturdays programme continues with Street Circus, in partnership with Déda Producing, on August 8 with regular performances at the Waterfall in the Market Place between 11am and 3pm.

Sinfonia Viva Unveils Mobile Venue

Sinfonia Viva Orchestra has unveiled its new mobile venue with a series of free concerts at Derby’s Cathedral Green.

The stage and inflatable auditorium is a unique structure that can tour into places and spaces to deliver concerts, education and community projects – giving audiences who would not normally get the chance to see such work in their own community.

Three concerts were held during the day with a Sinfonia Viva Chamber Orchestra performing a selection of work from such composers as Beethoven, Mozart and Schubert.

A Postcard, Scrap Metal, John Masefield and a Cap Badge

What do a postcard, scrap metal, John Masefield and a cap badge all have in common? The answer is that they are all part of the diverse and extensive exhibition now open in The Pump Room of the Grand Pavilion, Matlock Bath. The exhibition is part of the Heritage Lottery funded ‘The Great War – Life in The Bath’ project run jointly by Matlock Bath Parish Council, Peak District Lead Mining Museum and Matlock Bath Heritage and involving residents, businesses and visitors to the village.

Support Grows For Creative Project’s Bid For National Lottery Award

Support is gathering pace for an innovative creative project led by East Midlands’ professional orchestra Sinfonia Viva to win a prestigious National Lottery Award.

Sinfonia Viva, based in Derby, is up against six other creative projects across the UK to clinch the Award.  It is in recognition of the success of its ‘Dark Clouds are Smouldering into Red’ education project which, last year, commemorated the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One.
