CQ Saturdays Street Theatre Brings Edwardian Style to Derby Cathedral Quarter

Visitors to Derby Cathedral Quarter will be taken back to the Edwardian era this summer as part of the popular CQ Saturdays entertainment programme.

Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID), which was voted national BID of the Year in the Association of Town and City Management 2016 awards, has again commissioned Derby-based Ashrow Theatre Company for CQ Saturdays Street Theatre.

Pirate Capers at Derby Market Hall

Visitors to Derby Market Hall in the Cathedral Quarter will be transported to the high seas over the next two weekends to mark the historic building’s 150th anniversary and celebrate the national Love Your Local Market fortnight.

Rag Week Success at JWC

Staff and students at Derby College’s Joseph Wright sixth form campus have raised £667 for charity during their annual Rag Week.

Activities included a fancy dress competition with a superheroes theme, cake sales, henna tattoos, music performances, games and quizzes. The money will be shared between Cancer Research, Children First and the Derby College Student Union (DCSU).

Visitors to Derby College’s Broomfield Hall campus in Morley on Sunday May 29 will be in for a horticultural and animal treat with a wide range of advice and activities available for all the family.

Students Create Safe Haven For Broomfield Hall ‘Residents’

Level three Countryside Management students have created two important habitats for insects and amphibians at Broomfield Hall.

The students have constructed a hibernaculum and an insect log. Both habitats will provide food and shelter over the coming months and will help various species of cold blooded creatures survive harsh winters.

Arts in the Village - Part of Derbyshire Open Arts 2016

Arts in the Village have a busy few weeks ahead as they make preparations for their second ‘Arts in the Village Festival’. They will be hosting the event and are extremely proud to be part of Derbyshire Open Arts 2016. The event is one of the largest venues in Derbyshire Open Arts – alongside their Artists and Exhibitors they will also have live music, entertainment, children’s interactive activities, free children’s face painting & story telling, a small selection of market stalls & street food traders.

A Feast of Fun for Buxton Fringe!

Buxton Festival Fringe will be celebrating the launch of its 52-page programme with an open-to-all party at the town’s The Green Man Gallery on Sunday June 5th from 6.30-9.30pm.

The event will feature light refreshments and music from Fringe performers plus a chance to sign up as a Fringe Friend for offers and invitations throughout the year plus 10% off ticket prices. Entries for the Fringe closed in April with 148 entrants signing up offering nearly 500 individual performances throughout the town.

Merrill Academy Students Gain Inspiration From Apprentice Star

Businesswoman and motivational speaker Melody Hossaini, a former candidate on BBC Television’s ‘The Apprentice’, visited Merrill Academy recently as part of her national Success Tour in partnership with National Citizen Service (NCS) to inspire young people to achieve their goals.
