The Rotunda: A new pop up venue for Buxton Festival Fringe 2017

Buxton Festival Fringe 2017 will see the launch of the The Rotunda Theatre.  This brand new 120 seat studio theatre, housed in an eye catching blue geodesic dome, will pitch up at the Pavilion Gardens for the whole of the festival.  It will boast an exciting and diverse program that will include everything from a South African musical to some of the best solo theatre and a rare chance to see a film about working with the playwright Harold Pinter.

CQ Saturdays Street Circus

Unicycling, juggling and hula hooping are just some of the spectacles in store for visitors to Derby’s Cathedral Quarter on Saturday June 10.

CQ Saturdays Street Circus returns to the Waterfall stage in the Market Place with a host of free entertainment between 11am and 3pm.

Chango Fuego will keep proceedings moving at a furious pace interspersed with his own performances using fire, a unicycle and other unusual props.

Derby Conference Centre go green with new electric car charging points

Derby Conference Centre has invested in sustainable technology and is leading the way in being one of the few hotels in the Midlands to offer electric vehicle (EV) charging points.

The centre now has 14 charging points installed, making them the hotel with the most EV charging facilities in the East Midlands. The business is hoping the charging points will incentivise those using the centre to think more carefully about their carbon footprint.

Fundraising Appeal Launched To Restore Canal’s Golden Mile

Conservative parliamentary candidate for Erewash, Maggie Throup, has officially launched Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust’s fundraising campaign to rebuild the first stretch of the former waterway and create a new visitor attraction.

A ¾ mile stretch of the canal in Draycott between Hopwell Road and Derby Road – known locally as the ‘Golden Mile’ - has been earmarked to be rebuilt into a level canal without locks.

Local Riders Triumph in Midlands Junior Duathlon

More than 250 young athletes from around the Midlands competed in a Junior Duathlon on a closed circuit at Darley Moor race track in Ashbourne on Saturday.

The event was open to young people aged eight to 16 as part of British Triathlon’s East and West Midlands Junior Race Series. It been organised by HUUB Events in partnership with junior triathlon clubs – Derby’s HUUB Sports Academy and Ashbourne-based Peak Performance.

Derby College Teams Up With Eurocamp For New Launch

Derby College has become the third FE college in the UK to offer a special Travel and Tourism course that includes a six-month paid internship in France with Eurocamp.

The level three study programme will start this September and is available to young people who are aged 18 by March 2018.

Bereavement Support Programme Starts

A free programme designed to give support and education to anyone following a bereavement will start again on Wednesday June 7.

The four-week Grief Journey Derby programme is funded by Derby and Ashbourne independent funeral directors G Wathall & Son.

The weekly sessions will be held during the day this time, between 1.30pm and 3.30pm, at the Cathedral Café in Iron Gate, Derby and must be pre-booked by contacting G Wathall & Son.

Local Student Wins Jewson Award

Jewson has named brickwork student Matthew Woodhouse as a winner in its 2017 Young Tradesperson of the Year competition.

Matthew (16) is a pupil at John Flamstead Community School in Denby and attends Derby College's Ilkeston campus one day a week to complete vocational qualifications alongside his GCSE programme.
