Surtal Arts Presents: Derby Mela In Association with Akaal Channel

Saturday 22nd July 2017 – 12.00-18.00

Surtal Arts is delighted to bring you the ‘Derby Mela’, in conjunction with Derby City Council’s Diversity Event ‘In-Sync’.

Join us for a fun packed festival with locations all over the city celebrating arts from Southern Asia and debuting our exciting work from the Surtal Arts Connect project.

Derby Theatre remains as an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation and receives an uplift in funding

Derby Theatre is thrilled to announce that it will remain as part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio, plus receive an uplift in funding, which will result in it receiving a total amount of £3,180,000 over the next four years (£795,000 per annum), a £1,180,000 uplift on current funding to support key strands of the Theatre’s programme of work from 2018 to 2022. 

SARAH MILLICAN COMING TO DERBY ARENA

Award-winning comedian and writer Sarah Millican is set to perform at Derby Arena on Sunday 1 July 2018 as part of her latest UK stand-up tour. Priority tickets are available to Derby LIVE customers on Thursday 29 June at 10am.

Sarah Millican isn’t a control freak, she’s a control enthusiast. She even controls her own insults, see? Do you arrange the nights out? Are you in charge of passports on holiday? Then so are you!

ANOTHER STEP FORWARD FOR DERBY’S NEW POOL

Survey work is underway this week at Moorways in preparation for the proposed new swimming pool complex.

Leading engineering consultants Curtins have been appointed to carry out geo-environmental investigations on the site to help develop detailed designs for the new swimming pool complex. As part of the work a ground team will be drilling down to 15 metres to assess the ground conditions.

Barbara Ward Children’s Charity Funding (UK)

Charities and organisations helping children who are disadvantaged in some respect can apply for grants from the Barbara Ward Children's Charity. Causes that have previously received funding include educational projects, holidays, care and respite, health and well-being, sport, play and leisure. Grants may also be awarded to charities supporting adults with learning difficulties. Recent awards have ranged from £1,350 to £21,000 and have been used to support both one-off donations and project-related grants for 2-5 years.

Equipment Grants for mentally & physically disadvantaged children (UK)

Schools and not for profit organisations have the opportunity to apply for funding through the Wooden Spoon Society's Capital Grants programme. Wooden Spoon the British and Irish Rugby charity which supports mentally, physically disadvantaged children. Through the programme funding is available for:

•             Buildings and extensions

•             Equipment & activity aids

•             Sensory rooms and gardens

•             Playgrounds and sports areas

•             Transport

•             Soft playrooms.

Newly published Arts in Health: Designing and Researching Interventions provides a complete overview of how to go about undertaking research and practice in the field of arts in health. Part I explores the context for arts in health interventions, including the history of the use of arts in health and the theoretical and political developments that have laid the foundations for its flourishing. Part II examines how to design an arts in health intervention, develop partnerships and find funding and considers the sensitivities around working in healthcare.
