Brownlee Brothers Invite Local Pupils To Triathlon Taster

More than 1,000 primary school pupils from schools across Derby and Derbyshire will be joining triathlon stars Alistair and Jonny Brownlee for a free mini-triathlon event at Allestree Woodlands School on Thursday September 28.

Primary schools have been invited to bring up to 30 pupils from Key Stage 2 (aged 7 – 11) to the triathlon taster where they will complete a 20m swim in Woodlands’ pool followed by an 800m cycle and 300m run around the playing fields.

Local Cycling Club Lays Down Challenge For Sportive Title Contenders

Cycle Mickleover, a well-established cycling club based in the city with over 235 members, is laying down the gauntlet for other clubs and company groups to snatch their Team Challenge title in this month’s North Derbyshire Challenge cycle sportive.

Over 30 Cycle Mickleover members took part in the Spring Classic Sportive, with the ten fastest members lifting the Team Challenge trophy, sponsored by Geldards LLP in Pride Park, Derby.

Free Seminar Helps People Cope With Family Loss

Derby’s longest established family-owned funeral directors, G Wathall & Son, have teamed up with fellow professionals to hold a seminar exploring how to cope with a death in the family.

The event will be held at the Grange Banqueting Suite in Burton Road, Littleover, on Friday September 29 between 2pm and 4pm.  Places are free of charge but booking is essential.

Sing Viva – Derbyshire Carers Choir Hits the Right Note for Darley Park

A newly-formed choir made up of local people who are carers will make their debut performance at The Hannells Darley Park Concert on Sunday September 3 with a diverse programme of well-known songs.

Sing Viva  – Derbyshire Carers’ Choir has been set up by Derby-based Sinfonia Viva, the East Midlands’ only professional orchestra, as part of its 35th anniversary programme - enabling more people than ever to experience creative music making.

Peter Pan Cast Announced

Derby Theatre is thrilled  to announce the cast for their big, family-friendly, festive production for 2017/18, a magical and mystical Peter Pan, performed by a marvellous band of actor-musicians, on from Saturday 2 December until Saturday 6 January. 
 
Playing the title character will be Jack Brett. New to Derby Theatre audiences, Jack’s previous credits include Peter Pan in Underneath a Magical Moon (York Theatre Royal and UK tour); Alfie Strange: Trained Time Travellers Only (New Wolsey Theatre) and Cymbeline (Guildford Shakespeare Company).  

Hetain Patel - new exhibition at QUAD, Derby

A new exhibition in QUAD, Derby will include a premiere of work by East Midlands Artist Hetain Patel. The new exhibition consists of two film works: a major new work, Don’t Look at the Finger (2017), commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella with Manchester Art Gallery and QUAD, and The Jump (2015). It will be the UK premiere of The Jump in QUAD, Derby which will simultaneously also be shown at The Manchester Art Gallery, marking 50 years since Patel’s family emigrated from India to the UK.

New art exhibition celebrates Derbyshire’s famous women

New paintings by artist Eleanor May Watson will celebrate famous Derbyshire women at Dear Reader, an exhibition at the Museum & Art Gallery, Derby from 16 September to 19 November. The work, produced during a nine month residency as the current holder of the prestigious Jonathan Vickers Fine Art Award, was inspired by Eleanor’s research into the lives of these women across history.
