Football Legend Joins Sportive Line-Up

Derby County Football Club Under 21 coach Rory Delap will be among the hundreds of cyclists taking part in the North Derby Challenge Sportive on Sunday September 17.

Mr Delap’s professional football career included 11 appearances for the Republic of Ireland national team and contracts with Derby County, Carlisle United, Southampton, Sunderland, Stoke City, Barnsley and Burton Albion.

Cathedral Quarter Plans For Challenges Ahead

Derby Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) has unveiled its plans to build on the award-winning momentum achieved over the past ten years and face the numerous challenges ahead for the next five years.

Representatives from a wide range of businesses gathered at the Derby Museum and Art Gallery this week for the official launch of the BID business plan 2018 – 2023.

Music Galore in Derby Cathedral Quarter

CQ Saturdays Knickerbocker Glorious returns to Derby Cathedral Quarter on Saturday September 16 with a free line-up of family musical entertainment at the Waterfall stage in the Market Place between 11am and 3pm.

Acts include the Sing Ropogo Choir who are based in Allestree under the direction of Dana de Waal with a unique style of rock, pop and gospel music; musician Alan Mansbridge who plays a variety of musical styles such as jazz, classical and pop; duo Sweet Liquorice and singer/songwriter Isaac Walters.

Canal Trust Plan To Launch River Boat Trips In City

Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust are developing plans to launch boat trips on the River Derwent from Derby city centre.

Initially the trips would run between the Council House steps and the picturesque weir at Darley Abbey.

Moving forward, the full trip would ultimately travel through a new lock in the weir alongside the Council House and stretch to the Derby Arm boat lift that the Trust is planning to build on Pride Park.

The Trust recently enlisted the help of the Midland Canoe Club, based at Darley Abbey, to test the depths of the River Derwent. 

New poem unveiled at Belper station

We’re delighted to have installed a new poster poem at Belper Railway station on Platform 1 – this is the only site on Beth’s Poetry Trail where the poem is changed from time to time.

The new poem appropriately enough is titled ‘Travel’ and it was written by Edna St Vincent Millay. Wikipaedia describes her thus: ‘Edna St. Vincent Millay was an American poet and playwright. She received the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1923, the third woman to win the award for poetry, and was also known for her feminist activism.’

Derbyshire takeover on the Irish Sea

It is a Derbyshire takeover as four young people from the county, all in recovery from cancer, are enjoying the sailing experience of a lifetime taking part in the latest leg of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust's epic four-month Round Britain 2017 challenge.
