Buxton Festival’s 2015 Programme Announced

The nationally renowned and award winning Buxton Festival features an impressive programme of opera, music and literature during July 2015 in the attractive Peak District Spa Town.

Opera performances in the stunning Opera House include Verdi’s Giovanna d’Arco, Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and a concert performance of Chapentier’s Louise. Elijah Moshinsky the prolific director and three times Laurence Olivier Award winner for Opera will be directing the much anticipated performance of Giovanna d’Arco.

The Mansfield Building Society help restore installation at Beth’s Poetry Trail in Belper

The Beth Fender Memorial Fund received an award of £500 from The Mansfield Building Society’s Community Support Scheme to cover costs of restoring one of the 20 installations on Beth’s Poetry Trail back to its original beauty. 

Glen Mulliner of Beth Fender Memorial Fund said: “We are very thankful to The Mansfield for donating these funds.  The installation had bad weather damage and these funds will not only cover restoration but will provide treatment which will prevent any future damage.”

Shirebrook Town Council launch Live & Local events with comedy by local writers

Live & Local, the community touring scheme that brings professional live performances to unusual spaces is teaming up with Shirebrook Town Council to bring exciting events to the town.

The inaugural show, which launches the partnership, is a hilariously nostalgic comedy 'Big Daddy vs Giant Haystacks’ written and directed by local award winning duo Brian Mitchell and Joseph Nixon. It will take place in Shirebrook Village Hall on Wednesday 4 February 2015 at 7.30pm

Poem a Month for January

Poem a Month is off to a great start with this poem submitted to the Literature Team at Derbyshire County Council by David Duncombe inspired by a common sight - walkers in the Derbyshire countryside.

Here is David's introduction to the poem: 'Walking in the Peak District on an autumn day I saw a couple, the woman leading, stepping neatly and he following, splashing in the mud. I let my imagination go with them on a circular walk.'
