Mental Health Together Holds Walk and Talk to Support Time to Talk Day

Mental Health Together will be holding a walk and talk event on Thursday 1st February as part of a nation-wide push to get people talking more openly about mental health for one day. Time to Talk Day is organised by Time to Change, the campaign to change how we all think and act about mental health problems, led by charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness.

Easter Dance Intensive Call Out – Derbyshire based dancers and performers

Déda and Derby Theatre in partnership with National Dance Company Wales are offering Derbyshire based dancers and performers aged between 13-18yrs a unique and exciting opportunity this Easter.

Participants will work with NDCWales Dance Ambassador Kerryn Wise for 3 days to create an exciting performance which will be shown as a curtain raiser in the foyer area before NDCWales present their triple bill Terra Firma at Derby Theatre on Tuesday 8th May 2018.

Deda and Derby Theatre in partnership with National Dance Company Wales are offering an exciting workshop opportunity to primary school aged children.

Primary schools are invited to book a free workshop with NDCWales Dance Ambassador Kerryn Wise. The dance workshops will comprise fun and engaging activities linked to NDCWales current touring works and can be differentiated to suit all students and key stages.

New Creative Project Brings Maths To Life

Derby-based regional orchestra and Grammy-nominated Sinfonia Viva has launched an innovative creative project that will use the power of music to bring Mathematics to life for young people across the city.

The project, entitled ‘Mathematical Advantage’ has been inspired by the age-old link between composers and mathematicians and follows feedback from city school teachers about the need to tackle the subject in a more creative way.

Gin and Rum Festival Coming to Derby!

Over 60 gins and 60 rums… Easter bank holiday weekend!

The Gin and Rum Festival are organising its first Gin and Rum Festival which will be held at the iconic Roundhouse in Derby.

The festival will take place over two days Saturday 31 March and Sunday 1 April, with two sessions running per day. Doors open from 12pm until 5pm followed by the evening session 6pm – 11pm.

Work Starts Restoring Canal-Side Cottages

Volunteers with Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust have started preparation work to restore six derelict cottages overlooking a stretch of disused canal in Draycott which the Trust is also planning to restore.

The volunteers are under the leadership of Project Manager for the Trust Scott Birkhead, a local, recently retired builder, and have been clearing up the rubbish that has accumulated over decades at the site and cottages.

Derby College Student Union President Attends Celebration Event

Derby College Student Union President, Carl Anderson, has attended a reception at the House of Commons to celebrate the success of present and past further education college students.

Carl was highly commended in the Association of Colleges (AoC) Student of the Year Awards 2017 and attended the event with Derby College Inclusion and Support Co-ordinator Peter Benyon who nominated him for the award.
