Colourful Event Celebrates Sari Fashion

A colourful evening of fashion, entertainment and food, inspired by the Sari – a traditional outfit worn by women in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal -  will be held on Friday May 26 at Slice of India in Mansfield Road, Derby.

The evening event (6.30pm to 9.30pm) has been organised by Derby’s South Asian arts organisation, Surtal Arts, as a belated finale event for last Autumn’s Derby Season of Light – a popular family festival of activities, events and performances to celebrate the city and county’s diversity and creativity.

Award nominated podcast sitcom written and inspired by Wirksworth Derbyshire is now crowdfunding for Series 3 of the podcast. 

The series features many stars of sitcoms from the golden age including Vicki Michelle, Jeffrey Holland and Mike Fenton Stevens. 

We have some great perk including the chance to appear in a minor role in an episode from the new series.

Leabrooks’ butcher Owen Taylor wins top accolades at national craft butchery awards

 

 

Leabrooks butcher, Owen Taylor & Sons, has scooped national awards for its Steak & Ale and Pork Pies.

 

Both pies won their respective categories (Best Steak Pie and Best Pork Pie) at this year’s Smithfield Awards, organised by the Q Guild of Butchers and widely recognised as the meat trade’s most high profile and challenging product evaluation.

Five tourism businesses from the Peak District and Derbyshire have reached the finals of the prestigious VisitEngland Awards for Excellence where they will compete for the highest accolades in English tourism.

Great British Car Journey, Wildhive Callow Hall, The Blind Bull, Pure Outdoor and myGuidedWalks have been shortlisted for national glory after winning gold at the 2023 Peak District & Derbyshire Tourism Awards earlier this year.

Derby College student Luke is Collis Engineering’s first degree apprentice

Derby-based rail engineering business Collis Engineering Ltd has taken on its first degree apprentice after finding the ideal candidate at a careers fair held at The Roundhouse

Luke Payne, who has a level 3 qualification in advanced manufacturing and engineering from Derby College Group, got the chance to apply for the role after meeting the company’s directors at the Diversityin2Engineering event.

Derby College Group runs the Welcome Café in Derby. However, this is no ordinary café but also provides training opportunities for people with special educational needs and disabilities. And due to its continuing success, it is now opening four days a week.

And its success continues with being awarded a five-star hygiene rating, which reflects the care and attention as to how the café is run.
