Peak District Photography Workshop

£100 - £90 (Friends)

 

Join us for an afternoon of landscape photography in the stunning Peak District National Park with Chris Nowell.

The day will commence at 1pm at Dronfield Hall Barn. Please have had a substantial lunch beforehand. Feel free to grab something to eat at The Barn, where you’ll be able to meet our instructors. We will commence the afternoon at Surprise View car park and make our way to Bole Hill Quarry, followed by a gentle and short hill climb up to Millstone Edge. These locations offer millstone and sliver birch compositions as well as classic Peak District landscape views, out over Hathersage and the Hope Valley.

What you’ll need on the day

A camera with a full battery and a tripod are essential. If you have extra batteries and filters, please do bring them along too.

This workshop is aimed at new photographers who are looking for expert guidance in landscape and wildlife photography.

Opus Anglicanum Embroidery Workshop

£75 - £60 (Friends)

Opus anglicanum was one of the high arts of the middle ages, traded and collected by nobles all over Europe.

In this class you will use fine silks and gold threads to create a small face in the opus anglicanum technique, using split stitch and underside couching. A choice of male or female faces will be provided.

If you have a frame please bring it, otherwise one will be provided for use during class. Please note hoops are not ideal for this technique.

Some people may prefer to work with a magnifier.

November 2, 9:00 - 4:00 pm

Peak District Photography Workshop

£100 - £90 (Friends)

 

Join us for an afternoon of landscape photography in the stunning Peak District National Park with Chris Nowell.

 

At 9 am we will begin with a general conversation to get to know each other. Before familiarising ourselves with the cameras and some basic camera skills.
Next we will take the short 30 minute drive parking by the side of the road ready to photograph the waterfalls woodlands and nature of Padley Gorge.

After lunch we will walk up to Surprise View Corner, stopping if we have time at Lawrence Field to look at the Silver birch trees. Then on to Millstone Edge which offers fantastic views overlooking Hathersage and the Peak District National Park.

Finally we will slowly make our way to the top of Owler Tor just before sunset. This will give you lots of time to put into practice all the teaching points of the day.

Laid and Couched Embroidery Workshop

£75 - £60 (Friends)

 

Everyone knows laid and couched work as the stitch used for the Bayeux Tapestry, but most people aren’t aware that it was used all over medieval Europe for hundreds of years.

This workshop will be using naturally dyed wools to get as close to true medieval colours as possible we will explore this fun and versatile technique using images from the margins of medieval manuscripts like the Luttell psalter. A choice of designs will be provided and you can chose your own colours.

If you have a frame please bring it, otherwise one will be provided for use during class.
