What's On at the Courtenay Gallery in Ashbourne

Bringing Back the Light on Saturday April 23rd from 2:00-6:00pm
The exhibition will be on until May 14th

"The paintings in this exhibition document the transition of my work from the strange and otherworldly existence of lockdown to a more recent time. They represent a period of questioning and reflection which manifests upon the canvas. Never before have I held moments of peace and simplicity more dear and never before have I sensed their fragility more acutely. The beauty of the natural world and the seemingly insignificant scenes of my surroundings sustained me and succeeded in bringing back the light."

Anna Thomas is an artist living and working in Cumbria. Her paintings are created from an inner need to respond to her surroundings and illustrate her fascination with the esoteric aspects of nature.
She uses oil, acrylic and mixed media to weave narratives which reflect her surroundings.  Her paintings are busy, colourful and often touched by a tender humour.

In 2019, she was elected into MAFA, the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts.

We will continue to raise funds for the Ukraine Crisis Appeal until the end of April. We have raised £1150 to date - thank you to artists John Connolly, Lewis Noble and Paul Freeman for donating from their art sales at the gallery in March.

We have marked all art available for the Appeal with a yellow dot at the gallery and click here to view a special selection on our COURTNEY GALLERY website.
