Students Return From Dutch Work Exchange

A group of 12 Derby College students have completed a work placement programme in Holland as part of their studies.

Sport, Public Services and A level students based at Broomfield Hall and the Joseph Wright Centre spent a week in Sint Michielsgestel near Eindhoven.

They stayed with local families and then completed work placements including organising sports activities in schools and working in a physiotherapy clinic.

Sports Lecturer and organiser Kevin Bunting said: “We have been working with our partner school Gymnasium Beekvlietthe for 13 years now – taking our students there for work experience and hosting them here at Derby College.

“We hope that this will be further expanded in the coming years through the College’s successful Erasmus European mobility programme – offering even more opportunities for our students to gain valuable work experience and learn about different practices and cultures.”

Among the students was Sport student Harriet Collins (18) from Morley.  She said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to see how the sports industry operates in another country and particularly to get some experience working in physiotherapy which is difficult to source in the UK.”
