St Peters Quarter Takes Centre Stage at Derby Festé

Feste Saurus

St Peters Quarter, which is the core retail area between Cathedral Quarter and Intu Derby shopping centre, will welcome thousands of visitors to a host of events as part of this year’s popular Derby Festé programme.

On Friday September 25, the Saurus parade will start from St Peter’s Cross at 9pm with the incredible giant beasts stalking their ‘prey’ with deafening roars along St Peter’s Street and Victoria Street on their way to the Market Place.

The beasts will then return to the Spot and St Peter’s Street on Saturday September 26 alongside an array of other fantastic street entertainment in St Peters Quarter throughout the day.

The Splash Stage, presented by Derby arts organisation Furthest from the Sea, will feature a wide range of performances from dance and theatre to bands and comedy between 12pm and 5pm.

Man in a Box, presented by Maynard Flip Flap will entertain shoppers in East Street at 12 noon and at 2pm.

And Freckled Mischief’s Wizard of Oz street theatre comes to East Street and St Peter’s Street at 4.15pm with the Tinman, Cowardly Lion and Scarecrow asking visitors to help them find their way home after the cyclone takes them off track.

Stephen Jeffery, chair of St Peters Quarter Board, which drives through activities under the area’s Business Improvement District status, said: “We are delighted that St Peters Quarter features so prominently in this year’s Derby Festé programme.

“The BID has organised a wide range of street entertainment throughout the summer which has been the perfect appetiser for Festé and we are looking forward to hosting some new and innovative acts as part of the two-day programme.

“One of the key objectives for the BID is to improve the visitor experience in the area and encourage more people back into St Peters Quarter which is the traditional high street of the city centre.

“Street entertainment is an important part of this work – animating the street and creating a fun festival atmosphere.”
