Sheffield Hallam University BA & MFA Fine Art Exhibitions

Sheffield Hallam University BA & MFA Fine Art Exhibitions

Artists, creative practitioners, studios, galleries, educators, family and friends of the courses, you are invited to join us as we showcase the work of graduating students from BA and MFA Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University.

This year we are celebrating their achievement with a series of exhibitions as part of the Department of Art and Design’s Future Now Festival of Creativity.

We begin with our degree show exhibitions, which take place in the beautiful Fine Art Studios at the Department of Art and Design’s Head Post Office Building in the heart of Sheffield city centre and at S1 Artspace located nearby in Park Hill.

BA Fine Art Degree Show ‘SONDER’

SONDER has two meanings. It can mean to probe, to test, to ‘sound’ the depths. It also expresses the realisation that everyone around us also has complex lives and thoughts: as individuals, we are not the centre, we are one of an infinite number of centres, connected. The class of 2023 have ‘sondered’ in both these ways, making material and conceptual experiments through painting, coding, ceramics, writing, installation, participation and more.

Do join us to view the work, meet our graduates and raise a glass at our opening night.

5pm – 8pm 18 May 2023

Head Post Office Building, Flat St, Sheffield S1 2BA

MFA Fine Art Degree Show

Our graduating MFA students are exhibiting work across two sites - the MFA studios in the Head Post Office and at our partners S1 Artspace. Alongside the exhibition there are opportunities to get involved through a series of drop-in drawing workshops in the MFA Studio (Saturday 20, Monday 22 and Saturday 27 May, 12noon – 5pm)

We end with ‘HANDHELD’, in the Arundel Room at Sheffield’s Millennium Gallery.

HANDHELD is a group exhibition of small works and objects that can be held in the hands. This constellation of images, drawings, fragments, found objects, source material, models, miniatures, replicas and personal totems, presents the pole stars that guide an individual making practice. The exhibition draws from forms and ideas explored in the degree shows (19th-27thMay), generating new perspectives and insights into the individual studio practices that grow through the study of art.
