THE OLD LOCK UP GALLERY

Dear friend of The Old Lock Up Gallery,
the gallery re-opens on 13th October at 3pm with Salon 10 - ALL are welcome.
I'm extremely excited and looking forward to the contemporary art exhibition - where the gallery will be showing the work of eight fine artists.

Salon:
'A gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine taste and increase their knowledge of the participants through conversation. These gatherings often consciously followed Horace's definition of the aims of poetry, 'either to please or to educate'

Exhibiting Artists -

Sarah Ball
Karl Bielik
Tom Down
Nick Grindrod
Mandy Payne
Rachael Pinks
JFK Turner
Sean Williams

'The 10th Salon to be held at The Old Lock Up - The shows began in 2012 - whilst the gallery was occupied as an artists studio by Rachael Pinks Et al.
The shows were originally one night only happenings - with the aim of bringing together a diverse group of artists and their work from across the Midlands region - work, which then, was rarely shown within the rural Derbyshire area.
Gallerist and owner of the Old Lock up Gallery - Rachael Pinks developed the idea for the shows due to having a desire to view and celebrate the diversity of art within the region and exhibit work that she loved and was passionate about!

A following for the shows soon developed and the one night only shows attracted audiences of 100+.

After a 2 year break and with much excitement, the exhibitions return to the space!
Salon 10 has been curated by Rachael Pinks and Mandy Payne.'

No longer a one night only event - they have been extended as part of the galleries programme of exhibitions - due to popular demand.
We hope you can join us for Salon 10 - an exhibition of eight Contemporary Artists work from across the UK.

In other news - the Secret Postcard Show was a huge success - in excess of 170 postcards were sold and it was such a great experience to know that the show delights both visitors and buyers alike! I've yet to calculate money raised for 'Arts Emergency' - but it looks as though it will be in the region of £400, I'll let you all know in the next newsletter.

Highlights - for me - this year:

- Feeling and experiencing the support from the arts community, friends, followers and the local community. A huge heartfelt thank you!!
- The opening event - so good to see and experience the space full and truly alive with art lovers and supporters of the gallery!
- Visitors visibly excited at the prospect of purchasing an affordable piece of work!
- The show - so very diverse, such immense talent and quality of work - thank you to all Artists for your generosity and for sharing your work with everyone!

The show will continue in 2019 - looking forward to it already!

Also - I'll be running a weekly sketching group at the gallery on Monday evenings: first group will be on 15th October 2018.
We'll start the sessions off with some straightforward sketching and then we will look at developing these further into pieces of work in their own right. A space to connect creatively, produce work, share ideas and relax- an enabling creative space! The group has limited spaces available - if you're interested and would like to book a place or have further info - simply reply to this newsletter.

And finally - I'm not sure if I've mentioned that I was recently successful in obtaining and energy efficiency grant for the gallery! I'm also incredibly excited about this. Next week modern storage heaters will be fitted to the space, along with LED spotlights - which are tracked - 4 tracks of beautiful lighting which will enhance the gallery experience. The grant has also enabled me to apply for Listed Building Consent to have a 8 KW log burning stove installed - which should be fitted by late November - Early December. Looking forward to the intimate ambience that the stove will provide.

Looking forward to a very warm Winter at the gallery -
warm wishes to you all and very much looking forward to seeing, those of you who can make it, at the opening of Salon 10!

Many thanks for taking the time to read the latest newsletter.

Kindest regards
Rachael Pinks
