Matlock Storytelling

2018 is now well underway and with February here already it's time to think of Matlock Storytelling Cafe. As usual we're on the first Friday of the month, so that's Friday the 2nd. This month is a must, climb out of your sofa come along to the Imperial Rooms Matlock and leave your winter chills behind as we whisk you away to India with Peter Chand.

Yes Peter Chand is bringing Dark Tales from India to Matlock,

From Shape-Shifters to Cunning Seducers, Sadistic Mother-in-laws to Sensual Spirits; British Indian storyteller Peter Chand has brought together a selection of truly dark and disturbing stories from India, several for the first time. From the young man who descends into sensual madness, to the most shocking of all curses laid down by a holy man, and the young bride who took on the might of the Goddess Kali herself. These tales are as far removed from 'peace and harmony' as you can imagine.

"Dark, weird, sexy, definitely one for adults!” Cath Edwards Festival at the Edge

"Peter transports the listener into his world with remarkable energy and expression... I was spellbound." Kim Normanton, Producer, BBC R4

Peter Chand is one of our most renowned storytellers, having told throughout Britain and Europe, he specialises in stories from the India subcontinent- his ancestral homeland. We are so delighted that Peter is coming to Matlock, and know that his performance will be one of the highlights of our year.

Beware this is a strictly over 18's only performance and not for the easily offended.

As always Matlock Storytelling Cafe is on the first Friday of the month (2nd of February) in the Imperial Rooms, Imperial Road, Matlock DE4 3NL. Our doors open at 6:45pm when we will be serving our amazing soup, cakes, hot drinks etc. if you want alcohol that's fine but bring your own. Admission is £7 and stories begin at 7:30pm.
