Little Lonsdale Swimmers Take the Plunge

Two young swimmers at Lonsdale Pool in Mickleover have secured distance badges as part of their lesson programme at the pool.

Four-year-old Freya Devitt achieved an impressive 25m badge recently and Tobias Mangnall gained his 5m badge ahead of his third birthday.

Both were cheered on by their family and teachers at the pool where they attend weekly lessons.

Freya’s mum Lianne said: “Freya was over the moon when she gained her 25m badge and we are all so proud of her.

“We call her our little mermaid as she spends just as much – if not more – time swimming underwater than on the surface!

“The teaching staff are brilliant and so encouraging and you can clearly see the progress they are making week after week.”

Tobias is keeping swimming in the family as parents Rob and Abby both teach at Lonsdale and at Gayton pool in Littleover.

Abby said: “Tobias loves water – whether that is playing in the garden, having a bath or jumping into the pool.

“We obviously know the importance of introducing children to having fun in the swimming pool at an early age and he took to it straight away.”

Lonsdale Pool Manager Lynda Mangnall – and Tobias’ grandma - said: “We have some wonderfully talented and enthusiastic children across the ages but both Freya and Tobias have achieved something very special at a young age.”
