Updates

Arty Ladies

As you’ve come to expect, the Arty Ladies have had another busy month being creative. On the 6th May they learned how to make a simple book using traditional methods, carefully folding and binding some beautiful textured papers. Once made, the books were completed by adding an intricately decorated initial. They really were a work of art and something to take home to be treasured.

‘Thank you for another lovely session, I really enjoyed it.’

‘Another craft mastered, thank you.’

This Girl Codes Heritage Hack Lab

On Saturday 7th May, our This Girl Codes project was hosted by Curator Angharad and heritage facilitator Andrea from Creswell Crags, who gave us exclusive access and fascinating insight into Robin Hood’s Cave and Pin Hole cave, where we based our arts and tech activities. In the morning we got to learn about the Witch Marks, exploring the cave by torchlight and discover historic graffiti dating back as early as 1744!

Tapton Lock Festival – 10th Anniversary

Plans are rapidly falling into place now for this years’ 10th anniversary Tapton Lock Festival. Over the last couple of months we’ve been working closely with the Chesterfield BME Forum to discuss how some of the groups can have a presence at the event. We’ve been exploring all kinds of ideas that will bring an exciting multi- cultural dimension, including performances, displays and workshops.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Derbyshire Voluntary Action for awarding us a grant that will contribute towards costs. We have a busy fundraising schedule for Tapton to ensure we can deliver on our ambition that as much as possible is free to watch and take part in, so that no one is excluded from attending on financial rounds. If you run a business or would like to make a donation, please contact Hannah Bowdler, our fundraising coordinator by emailing hannah@junctionarts.org

The Chesterfield Postcard Show

Thank you to everyone who made our first every Postcard Show happen! We managed to raise £400 from the exhibition and donations.
All remaining postcards are moving to our Etsy shop available to buy for £10 each.

Mental Health First Aider Award

Jane Wells, one of our project coordinators has recently completed a Mental Health First Aid training course. Her free place was funded by Derbyshire County Council Public Health and was delivered over four weeks in May. The course has equipped Jane with the knowledge to look out for the signs of various mental health conditions and the confidence to offer help.

Continuing support is also available by joining The Mental Health First Aid Network, an online platform where mental health first aiders from across the county and Derby City come together to discuss any situations they might have encountered and providing a space to talk them through.

For further information about the training contact Ellie Scott at Erewash Voluntary Action. Email ellie@erewashcvs.org.uk

Garfield Weston

We are so excited to announce we have been awarded a grant of £25,000 from the Garfield Weston Foundation!
This funding is vital, enabling us to continue bringing communities together to co-create impactful arts experiences that empower people, improves wellbeing and inspires change.
