Joint Initiative Supports Local Cause

A bereavement support group, set up and run by family-owned funeral directors G Wathall & Son, have teamed up with a Derby care home to donate provisions to their local food bank.

Residents at Coxbench Hall Care Home in Alfreton Road were invited to design a Christmas card for Derby Dandelions bereavement support group.

The winning design was created by Mrs Carmela Nadolski who received a £25 garden centre voucher and Derby Dandelions donated a further £150 worth of non-perishable food which have been added to the donations from the care home.

Helen Wathall, managing director of G Wathall & Son explained: “Derby Dandelions now has more than 150 members across the whole county with groups meeting in Derby and Ashbourne.

“We were keen to work with Coxbench Hall this year as their support for the Food Bank is in line with our community focus – including supporting food banks and the night shelters in the city.

“By donating the equivalent money that we would have spent designing a card – we have the chance to embrace the Coxbench Hall residents’ creativity and add further support to the food bank which is a very worthy cause.”

Coxbench Hall Office Manager Lynda Loveday concluded: “We were delighted to have been asked to design the Derby Dandelions Christmas card and the residents thoroughly enjoyed their creative challenge.

“The support for the Food Bank is particularly important during the winter months and the additional provisions have been well received.”
