Ilkeston’s Community College Hosts Learning Open Day

Ilkeston’s Community College Hosts Learning Open Day

Derby College Group (DCG) is holding a family open day at The Community College in Pimlico, Ilkeston, on Saturday July 31 between 11am and 5pm with a range of taster learning sessions for adults and fun activities for children.

The Community College is now home to an expanded range of adult learning courses ranging from IT and Spanish to British Sign Language and Wellbeing as well as GCSE English, Maths and Biology and an extensive distance learning programme.  Many of the courses are free of charge and all lead to nationally recognised qualifications.

Activities for children accompanying adults on the day will include arts and crafts and a treasure hunt.

DCG Assistant Principal, Community and Adult learning Jennifer Rehman said: “Our Community College in Ilkeston has long been a popular venue for people to study a number of established programmes including Maths and English and Access to Higher Education.

“Since opening a dedicated adult and community learning suite last Autumn, we have welcomed many more people keen to return to education through an extended range of learning options.

She continued: “Adults come to College for all sorts of reasons – to help them return to or start work, improve their career prospects or to learn a new skill that they can enjoy at home.

“Feedback from our adult learners is that the quality of teaching, wide-ranging support available and easy access either by public transport or car makes this venue perfect for them to return to education.

“We appreciate that adult learners are often juggling work and family responsibilities and some may find returning to education a daunting prospect.

“Our aim is therefore to make this step as simple as possible for each individual and provide whatever support is required every step of the way in a friendly and welcoming environment.”
