Over 200 artists over 50 exhibitions over 20 venues over 30 days FORMAT19: FOREVER//NOW FORMAT organises a year-round programme of international commissions, open calls, residencies, conferences and collaborations in the UK and Internationally. Previous FORMAT festivals have welcomed over 100,000 visitors from all over the world. FORMAT is the place to engage with an incredible range of new work alongside some of the best archives and established practitioners in the world. With comprehensive professional practice programmes and a yearly International Photography Portfolio Review, FORMAT is focused on developing opportunities for audiences to see, debate, develop, contribute and participate in the best of what photography is and can be. The biennale edition incorporates Derby’s most beautiful buildings and key landmarks including: QUAD, University of Derby, Derby Museum & Art Gallery, Déda, Derwent Valley World Heritage Sites, Market Place and satellite venues in nearby cities. FORMAT is organised by QUAD and DMARC (Digital and Material Artistic Research Centre of the University of Derby) FORMAT was founded by Louise Fedotov-Clements and Mike Brown. Japanese artist Kensuke Koike will present an exhibition of collages drawn from the city’s important photographic archives, W. W. Winter. Kensuke is a cut paper master who works with images and materials to produce intricate collages, installations and sculptures. |
Mutable, Multiple is a story of stories, an exhibition that explores issues of entrapment and disappearance, misdirection, exile and longing, invisibility and alternative identities. |
FORMAT FOREVER//NOW Open Call presents the work of over 58 photographers and artists who have been selected via an international Open Call in response to the FORMAT19 festival theme FOREVER//NOW. |

Thierry Geoffroy: Critical Run Fri 15th Mar Join Thierry Geoffroy for a discussion on varied and important topics as you run the distance of 1 mile to the University of Derby in Markeaton Street. The Critical Run will be filmed and photographed and presented at the FORMAT19 Grand Awards Night. No special clothes or fitness level are required!
